Comments (7)there are decals that you can buy that are almost invisibe to you but realy reflect colors to the birds. I have a kitchen window that was a big bird strike area, since the decals...no strikes at all. I will try to find a link or info on them for you, only about $5.00 for a pack of 4. (also can move them from window to window as the seasons chang and different windows become strike areas).Mine are maple leaf shaped and transparent, but they really work. Comments (3)Is it possible to move the feeder to a more secluded area of your yard? A few trees around the vicinity of the feeder would help to shield the birds as they make a quick getaway from the predators. It's terrible that they have to deal with the windows and predators just to grab a bite at your feeder....See MoreAttack birds--help!
Comments (10)They are attacking their competitors for the females reflected in the windows. I've had them do it for weeks some years. My only consolation was thinking they were too busy going after themselves in the windows that they likely didn't find any time to mate...and pass on the stupid gene. Depending on the window location, for both robins and woodpeckers (pecking on the house), I've had good luck with a mylar helium filled balloon - if you can get it to float in front of the window...or anything that flutters in the breeze will spook them away. One year I put curling ribbon streamers, thumbtacked above the windows. Worked great until I came home one day and he had pulled them all down to use in embellishing his nests, trying to impress his mate. (apparently, the male robin builds the nests and often builds several prototypes hoping one will entice a female to lay her eggs in it. Or you can try an inflatable owl you can get at a marine supply store. Good luck!...See MoreRed-Headed Woodpecker attacking all my windows!
Comments (9)They are back. I can see two males, one attacking the windows on both sides of the house. I was cleaning the bedrooms and one was bashing my sons room, I banged on the window and he flew into a large orange tree near the house. I went outside and I saw, what looks like a possible nest on top of the tree. he was attacking the window while I stood there. I shooed him away and he stayed in the orange tree. I came back into the house and the other one was attacking my office window, on the other side of the house. Its crazy, wakes us all up at sun rise and it continues all day long. Yes, our windows have some sort of reflecting glass and I think they see themself in the reflection. ...crazy! On another note, they are beautiful, fully colored.
