Suggestions on how to finish these stairs where they meet the wall?

Not a professional carpenter by any means but so far I've finished all the carpentry on my new build house and its turned out great (I think)...I literally have one thing left on the main floor and its finishing these stairs.

When I built the stairs, I had a couple comments saying it is more 'modern' not to use a any skirting against the wall. Just to have the treads and risers meet the wall.....enter the drywall guys.

This was one task I did not want to tackle so they had at it and now I am left cleaning up this mess at the intersection of the stairs and the walls.

Looking for ideas. I would like to avoid making a skirt board in place if possible. Pictures below, you'll see I have one small section leading into a sunken room where a skirt board would hit the window trim. The other area is the basement stairs.

Any ideas on how to nicely clean up the drywall, use of trim, pro / cons or any idea would be great.
