Lily Beetles and Poison- Don't read if you're organic -only
Comments (9)The lily leaf beatle attacks all true lilies, which includes the asiatic ones. The infestation got so bad in my beds that I just plain gave up and dug out all my lilies and got rid of them. Tried everything I could find to use and it was just a temporary fix. Chelone, the Bayer stuff doesn't end the problem and I refused to continue with the dangerous stuff. Most of my neighbors have done the same, dug them out and gotten rid of them. Just not worth the effort to hand pick when you have hundreds of them all over the lilies and pesticides is not something any of us wanted to continue using. Now the beds are full of other beauties that don't require the constant care to have a chance at seeing a flower. My next door neighbor just decided this weekend to dig them up as well. Just no longer worth the effort. Fran...See MoreIf you don't amend the soil then how do you fix it if it drains fast?
Comments (28)I can definitely say that I am in the average category for one part and in the slow category for the other part of the lawn. I'm in the middle of performing another one with three separate holes. After 30 minutes the top two holes at the highest point of the lawn have dropped three and 4 inches respectively and will definitely drain within two hours. The hole at the way bottom of the lawn where all the water runoff is has only dropped about a half of an inch. No grass grows at this downward slope portion. I did the shake the jar test last night and am waiting for the Clay to settle to determine the composition of the soil. The confusion stems from statements like these: "Properly draining soil drains at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. If the soil drains at any other rate, modifications to the soil are needed." http://homeguides.sfgate.com/increase-soil-drainage-24306.html "If the water takes from three to 12 hours to drain, then the drainage is adequate for most landscape plants (about 1 inch per hour). If it takes more than 12 hours, then the drainage is poor." -http://essmextension.tamu.edu/treecarekit/index.php/before-the-storm/tree-identification-and-selection/identification-of-and-corrective-action-for-poorly-drained-soils-in-the-landscape/ In well-drained soil the water level will go down at a rate of about 1 inch an hour. A faster rate, such as in sandy soil, may signal potentially dry site conditions; http://agebb.missouri.edu/agforest/archives/v10n2/gh14.htm...See MoreNCIS !!!DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT!!!
Comments (23)The entire Ziva/Tony 'love' story was unbelievable. Both have had MULTIPLE partners some were "love" some were trysts..and we are to believe they kept hands off all that time, all the while each finding the other THE BIG LOVE OF THEIR LIVES? Since that season ending I have not been emotionally invested in NCIS. Now we are to believe they were "together" but the audience was left hanging... Bottom line, the story about the kid of the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE you keep secret is LUDICROUS. That is dime novel garbage and back in the day--I would expect more of that show. I stand on the side the show "ended" with Ziva leaving and someone should put it out of its misery....See MorePlease read if you don't like either candidate
Comments (26)While it's interesting in concept, and it would've certainly solved the gore bush problem in FL, I'm not sure it would solve the larger problem. To me, it seems we got better candidates when they were selected by the party bosses in the smoky rooms. To me, the 17 gop nominees highlights how lousy self-selection is and how poor people are at judging who is best for the job. Clearly t-rump is up because of his marketing skills, not his character or policies or experience. Had the back room guys chosen, it would've more than likely been Bush or Kasich, much more in keeping with the party values. There's a reason why the founding fathers put the electoral college in between the popular vote and the election winner. I think we need more interference at the nomination level too to really fix this issue....See More- 7 years ago
