Looking for a dishwasher that actually washes dishes
Comments (18)I bought a Whirlpool dishwasher when our old one conked out on us. What a mistake. This was the worst purchase of an appliance I've ever made. I usually spend a LOT of time on research before deciding, but this time, I had some deadline I was working with and decided quickly. This machine just does not wash dishes well in any way, shape or form. For the first time in my life, I am asking myself do I want to replace an appliance that is less than 5 years old. I also chose a stainless steel interior over the old enamel, thinking it would stand up to use better over time. This machine doesn't even keep the interior of the dishwasher clean. It always looks like it needs a cleaning and some of the screws that fasten the lining to the door even look a little rusty already. I never had to clean the inside of a dishwasher before, aside from clearing out any debris on top of the filter, or the outside edge of where the door closes. I'm forever trying to pack the dishes in perfectly and spacing the silverware in the basket well, but it just doesn't make any difference at all. I pre rinse, which defeats the point of saving energy on the cycles. Plus despite pre rinsing, the dishes still don't come out acceptable for me. And I'm forever pulling out a piece of silverware that has food stuck on it. Forget about pans. I clean all mine by hand now. I sometimes just pull out a dishpan and wash the dishes by hand. Every other old dishwasher I ever had, did an amazing job in comparison to this poor excuse for an appliance. If this is the best they can do with dishwashers, I am seriously thinking of leaving this one in place and going back to doing dishes by hand. Comments (20)I had a Bosch and returned it within 2 weeks. It had an odor and the dishes wouldn't get nearly as dry as previous dishwashers. And it was installed correctly . . . so don't believe the odor is going to be avoided by that. I think it may be the luck of the draw. Replaced it with a Kitchenaid KUDS03STSS. Love it, love it, love it. To my untrained ear sounds just as quiet as the Bosch. Gets the dishes totally dry and not a whiff of an odor. I truly believe that all appliances can have issues. So it will just depend on what happens in your case. My one absolute firm recommendation is to take your dishes and try them. My tall wine glasses did not fit in the Bosch but fit wonderfully in the Kitchenaid. My dog bowls (and I wash lots of them) did not fit well in the GE Profile (they wouldn't have stood upright so would have gotten filled with water) but fit perfectly in the Kitchenaid....See MoreNeed dishwasher that washes and DRIES
Comments (34)I had a Bosch that we bought in 2001 and when we moved it was my favorite thing to leave at our old house! It rarely cleaned dishes, left residue, often had standing water in bottom (yes I cleaned out the filter). And yet, when we were redoing our new kitchen I felt like everyone was pushing the Bosch. (I don't like he racking systems in the Miele as much as I have tried to during our 2 years of planning). Today was final decision today so I went to the local high end appliance store. When our salesman found I was not married to one brand, he said that his recent (over the past year) favorite was the KitchenAid Superba 60. It felt SO much sturdier than the Bosch, Miele or Asko. NOTE: If your counters are 24" deep and you want a panel ready model, these are the only three models that will ensure a "built-in" seamless look). He said some resist the high end KA because the want the "high end" DW brands, but he has fewer problems and more excellent reviews from the Kitchen Aid. The house we moved into has a 40 year old KA (yes, I know, they are made my entirely different companies, but still...) so we are going to give it a try. It has the three racks (my least favorite part of the Miele, but the rest of the racking system isn't as wacky), the silverware tray can be removed. The upper rack moves up and down so easily. He also mentioned that the KUD30 was the best "value" - had the most features and was still fairly quiet. We decided on the 60 because it was quieter and we are getting two (and expect that there will be many times when both are running at the same time) and it seemed to have an upgraded drying system and a sturdier rack system....See MoreBuying a new washing machine and Jan 1
Comments (32)Hi Turbo, Like you I don't visit the forum too often these days and I rarely post messages (been there done that) and yes I am very busy too these days with my business life and taking care of my mother every other week etc - it gets pretty hectic sometimes on those weeks but it's worth it. I sometimes check for fun though just to see what's going on here and noticed a few posts by you - so it's good to check in with you. For anyone who is interested, I posted my wash performance comments because unlike some who say that they don't have to wash clothes that are very dirty - I do wash clothes that are very very dirty - so I have some experience in this regard. Of course I'm not saying that a front loader couldn't wash them clean but am just saying that a standard agitator machine also does just fine. For those of us who have been around here a while, we've been through this sort of thing time and time again (no need to go at it again) but the comments about CR's latest ratings made me curious. I did get the June issue and they pretty much say that TL machines are struggling to get good results while meeting the 2007 energy standards. That's a curiousity since I'll bet that you can override many or all of those energy restrictions if you want to - for example I know that you can override them using a Fisher Paykel machine. Turbo, your comments about more people giving realistic assessments about real life FL performance is something that I'll have to check out - as I said I haven't combed through here for a while. I'll check it out when I have a bit of time. Take care Turbo and good luck to you and your family....See Morepaddykk
