What size rug should go under a round table?
Comments (12)First, something to think about: We are having a round table made and I initially wanted a smaller one with a leaf or two. My options were extremely limited (want a counter height for out room) and I thought I was going to order an Amish one when I found a local woodworker. He and his wife both said that if you want a pedastal, they would do everything they could to talk me out of extensions. They said they are great initially, but because of the weight and construcion of the table, they will always wind up having trouble. Now, he's building solid wood tables that should be around 100 years from now. If' you are buying something for the next 10 years, maybe you won't have any issues. Their advise was to go with the largest size round that fit the room and keep it stationary. That would allow you to have a rug that always fits too. No worries about storing leaves, changing finishes, etc. Are you going to have a buffet, server, china cabinet or other furniture in the room? The placement of other pieces could impact the size and shape of your rug. Search for photos of DRs with round tables. You basically have three choices -- no rug, fit the table with a round or square that is a minimum of 3-4 feet larger than the table (8-9 ft) or the rug essentially a room carpet. The size would then depend on whether you have other furniture in the room and how you want to define the space....See MoreBrass tray table and new table base: origin? Does it go?
Comments (19)I do have the original stand, which I will keep. It is low folding wood, only 15” high. I can’t use that height, though. At that height the table has no useful function. No one is going to sit on the floor to use it. My friend was going to sell the tray table, and I knew I was going to regret it once it was gone. I said I would take it only if I could find a table of the height I needed that would work with it: fast! I need it to hold a reading lamp and a cup of tea. My current table is 27 inches, perfect height, but way too big for the space, and wrong style (it’s a modern brass console table). Building a platform under the original legs would look awkward. I would have to almost double the height. I mocked something up last week and it looked really contrived. When I saw this, perfect height and diameter, I asked myself, “What are the odds I’ll ever find something better?” So I bought it. It was only $ 25. That’s good around here for a table that is not hopelessly beat up and in need of repair and refinishing. Oddly enough, it is very stable. I didn’t see it til I got the table home, but the top is slightly cupped. The slight curve of the brass tray fits right into it. I was planning on securing the top with a ring of silicone caulk anyway. Consensus seems to be that it does not go. I will use it as it is, and hope something better turns up in the next few years. Patty cakes, interesting about your large trays. I have a huge rectangular one I bought from a friend’s son over 20 years ago. He had tried to clean it with brasso and got white residue in all the grooves, and gave up on it. It’s ideal coffee table size. I have NEVER been able to find anything that would work for a base. I still have it in the basement. I always hoped I would make some legs someday. Or hang it on the wall. Or something. At this point, the coffee table niche is long filled (with a 30” round brass tray table that HAS its own base, and was already clean when I bought it.) But I still have not gotten rid of the big rectangular one. Can’t bring myself to do it. I’ll take another picture with it in place....See MoreHelp me choose a rug, coffee table media stand to go with my couch!
Comments (3)I think you'll get better advice showing a picture of the space and size of room. Wall and floor color makes a difference. Nice pieces so far! Any colors you like, or looking for a neutral calm space? Do you have any art already?...See Moredoes this breakfast table go with my kitchen?
Comments (8)dining zone will be veering a little more modern it seems...the kitchen itself has a bit more traditional sense about it. I'd find some interesting things for the dining zone as its in visual view as well it looks like traffic passes around it so youll be aware of it all the time. get a great rug and I'd go moderate to somewhat ample scaled chairs I would prefer upholstered as I think its a good investment and you can pick the fabric you like. fabrics are hard wearing these days. the blue gray chairs are nice but not plump enough . the second ones in white are a little better..they have some curves and in a print or stripe or tweed could be nice. the last pic. w the high backed striped chairs is a fun pick and puts life into that space [red is an apetite stimulating color ].....red=warm=fire...... just depends on what you care to do. remember there will be art on the wall later and plants in that light filled corner so its going to feel nice . the table is fine. ....See Morecottage63
