Buying drywall in U.S to take home to Canada
Comments (5)I build in the Toronto GTA and when the price is right have occasionally bought quantities of plumbing fixtures, tin cornice mouldings and door hardware sufficient for a large home at great savings--up to half the price of buying them here. I've done it all on-line. If you can calculate worthwhile savings, I don't see why you couldn't buy drywall too. But as mentioned above, check on the policies on rented vehicles. And, of course, the customs duties. Contact theCanada Border Services Agency For tariff rates, see the contact numbers here. I would be concerned about being considered an importer by CBSA. So ask on that specific point. But before going through all that work, I would check prices again in Canada. Look for a local drywall supplier. No real builder in TO, for instance, buys drywall in quantity from the big boxes....See MoreUpdate on U.S. residents wanting prescriptions filled in Canada
Comments (13)mcpeg, I'm an American and certainly take no offense to your concern and I would agree totally if in your position. That said, I should add that I have problems with all the people coming here for free health care too. People come from Mexico to have children here to be covered by US care at taxpayer expense and to the detriment of other citizens. I don't think that's right. Our state has a more lenient welfare system than many others and we get busloads of people who come in for a weekend to make claims, collect payments and go home. I don't mind helping out, but I don't like being taken advantage of. The problem of course is the laws of our respective countries and states/provinces. Just like the US is too stupid to tax actors who make millions and have their residency elsewhere, including Canada ;) (Dan Akroyd, Michael J. Fox, Adam Sandler, etc) and pay no taxes here. I don't think that's right either. But we have a dyslexic dimwit in the, well, I won't get into politics, not appropriate. But I do think you are justifiably concerned about it and I for one, share your dissatisfaction, and you needn't be sorry for feeling that way....See MorePermission Letter for Gr. to take Baby on trip: U.S./Canada?
Comments (4)My husband and I have taken our God-daughter with us on 4 vacations, 2 in the U.S. and 2 to foreign countries. You want to write a letter expressing that both parents (and give your names) give full consent for your daughter (give her full birth certificate name and her age) to travel with her maternal grandmother (give her full name) to and from (destination) and any areas that this vacation may need to take them. You also want to include that in the event of an emergency that both parents are giving her grandmother full authority to make any medical decisions for your child. You need to also include how you can be contacted if the grandmother becomes incapacitated (include a copy of your itinerary with dates you will be there, hotels and phone numbers). If your daughter has any known medical problems or allergies to medications include this also in the letter. With this information included, verification can be made if there is ever any question. The letter does not need to be notorized. Do NOT take any original documentation of a birth certificate. Take only a copy, if it is lost, you will have nothing to send to replace it. Giving your mother this opportunity to take your child with her will be something she will cherish and remember the rest of her life....See MoreLithuanian or Irish peat ship to U.S.
Comments (15)Some interesting points Miranda and Brian. From the compost point of view Miranda pre bagged stuff which is peat free can be pretty grim-I remember using New Horizon compost a number of years ago-looked like composted chipboard. Because we blend our own compost I guess with a certain amount of care fertiliser levels could be addressed but then you have other issues such as a standard grade-peat is in many ways peat-green compost could be anything upto a point which could lead to issues with batches of plants growing with mixed results. It does annoy me when the government etc focus on gardeners and growers for using peat when as Brian indicates much is burnt in Ireland (no doubt causing global warming if you think global warming happens). I think growers in places such as Holland do use more bio composts these days-judging by some of the shrubs we have imported but I dont like the look of the stuff. Our compost at work is infact a blend of Peat, Steralised soil and steralised composted waste from the nursery (so we have control of what is composted). Many nurseries send such waste to landfill so in a way we are infact quite green. The down side being the soil/compost steamer has sprung a leak and has spent the last 5-6 weeks in Germany having major repairs. I just wish they would send it us back....See MoreElmer J Fudd
