Comments (74)In case anyone missed the PBS special The Botany of Desire which premiered Wednesday, October 28, 2009, you can still watch the entire program online. It's incredible. Book turned documentary. BOTANY OF DESIRE is a documentary which tells the utterly original story of everyday plants and the way they have domesticated humankind. An interpretation of the relationship between plants and people. This two-hour documentary explores plant evolution and takes viewers from the potato fields of Peru and Idaho, the apple forests of Kazakhstan, and the tulip markets of Amsterdam. View online in it's entirety: here This is another related program by the same presenter on LINK TV (a cable access channel) which is timely: Deep Agriculture Traditional methods of agriculture in most developed nations have long ignored environmental concerns. Factors such as soil erosion, water shortage and the impact of chemicals on bio-systems have been overlooked in favour of massive crop yields and cheaper food. But what impact does this have on our health and our environment? Comments (3)I spotted a column 10 to 12 inches in length of over 1000 larvae moving on the concrete walk beside my home. Each larva was 1/4 inch long with a cylinderical translucent body and a black spot on the forward portion. A brown strip ran lengthwise. The column was about 1/2 inch wide. They moved very slowly and kept within the column. Would you identify the adult insect? There were so many and I can't believe they all came from a single insect....See MoreThe Profound Side of Gardening

Comments (13)"He said he's gonna change" Can you get her to put that in writing??? If a mother *knows* that her boyfriend/significant other is violent & she still exposes her children to that risk... I've said this over & over, but it bears repeating: Men are drugs. Women get addicted. A woman whose first encounter with a man reveals that he's a creep/doper/sex offender/loser/violent person/abuser will cut him off & walk away. but if he conceals the truth long enough for her to become attached (hooked), she'll believe the unbelievable & accept the unacceptable from him. Every one of us lives in a dangerous world because we are vulnerable in this way; this is how pedophiles & pimps become successful. Be careful, & keep on arming those girls. He's grooming them to become his sexual victims....See MoreDawnInCal
