i'm back! :) been playing with some photos, but seeded glass is so delicate a pattern, it really doesn't show much at a distance. plus it has to have "your stuff" behind it to make an accurate representation. if you aren't going to put lights in your cabinets, probably seeded would look nice and not compete with your pendants. but the people who like the clear have a really good point about your kitchen/house not needing any extraneous "frou frou". at least that's what i think they meant!

That's partly what sparked this topic. Your input is helpful. I'm a big believer in dimmers. I have nice lighting in my current kitchen but usually do also turn my pendants on too, though not always at full strength. So that information is good to know. Do you have any kitchen photos? I'd love to see it with the lanterns and the globe at the sink! Laurainlincoln, those lights are pretty! Thank you for sharing your experience with lanterns as well. GreenDesigns, I'm only 36 but we do plan on being in this house a very very long time! So aging is something to think about. Also, our parents visit a lot. But I also hate to dust so..... Ha!

I love the glass cabinet look, but I didn't think it would work well for us in our everyday use. I did the puck lights with clear glass above everyday cabinets in the display areas. It's clear glass now, but ultimately I'll prolly change to a textured glass as I did with some other cabinetry around the house. It really depends on the look u're going for.

Not HAVING the clear glass pendant. Other than that, a frosted bulb. or an Edison which will keep you in the dark, and defeat the purpose of the lighting. The best lighting over an island is one that forces light down onto the counter. Meaning one with a shade. Yes the other options are aplenty. Just saying......you want to light the island top, not disperse glare everywhere. Glass cleaning should top the to do list. : )
