Clear glass tiles appear pale blue
Comments (4)There are glass tiles that are clear without color cast. I am looking at a sample now that is made by opaque, clear, and crackling 2 x 0.5 inches mosaics, no color cast on any of these tiles. It is normal to obsess over the little details, actually I think it is a necessary process when making decisions. In a remodel, not only we spend money, time and energy, we have to live with the consequences. The part I do not like is I do not 2nd guess, instead, I 32nd guess every decision I make. It drives me crazy....See MoreFinal Decision: Miele DW - hot or cold water hookup?
Comments (13)I think many cycles on my DW use about 4.2 gallons of water or less depending on soil and load size but the DW can use more if the soil level is high but no more than 6 gallons. I connect mine to hot water, however my DW is not close to the water heater so the actual water is not all that hot, but better than the 38F degree water that comes out of the cold water line in the winter. I don't wash fine china in the DW so don't really care about dish damage, but even if I did because of my situation I can still get a cooler fill for that cycle. So it depends on your situation. If I cared about the china crystal thing ALOT then I would go with the cold water supply. Since I don't I opt for the hot water supply which helps speed up the cycle a little. I have seen times where there is a temp delay using a hot fill (you can tell if the time remaining count down stops and holds the same time) The delay has never been more than 3 minutes and then the time countdown will resume, however this will only happen if there is some different unexpected condition because each time you run a cycle the DW will take the time it took to heat the water into consideration so that the next time you run that cycle the initial cycle time will already include the time it took to heat the water the last few times you ran that cycle. Anyway it depends on your situation. For me no worries about china/crystal = hot water fill....See MoreIsland Lights:clear glass or down light pendants. Can we discuss?
Comments (17)I'm sorry. I thought I replied a few days ago! I wonder if I did and hit preview but not submit. Oops! Boxer, those second pendants are gone from Shades of Light. Do you happen to know the manufacturer? I like those and haven't seen them anywhere else. Candf, that info is very helpful. Thank you! Sideways, I am considering lanterns or globes. That's partly what sparked this topic. Your input is helpful. I'm a big believer in dimmers. I have nice lighting in my current kitchen but usually do also turn my pendants on too, though not always at full strength. So that information is good to know. Do you have any kitchen photos? I'd love to see it with the lanterns and the globe at the sink! Laurainlincoln, those lights are pretty! Thank you for sharing your experience with lanterns as well. GreenDesigns, I'm only 36 but we do plan on being in this house a very very long time! So aging is something to think about. Also, our parents visit a lot. But I also hate to dust so..... Ha!...See MoreLast decision! Please show your textured glass
Comments (22)Thank you, Annalyn. Do you mean 1/2" reeded, which is wider than the reeding in my light fixtures? Or the 1/4" which seems common but not by my GC's supplier? No worries about confusing me, Meek95, I need help with many things but I'm such a pro at self-befuddlement that it would be quite difficult for someone to add on. I haven't changed my mind about the glass in 10 hours (pay no attention to the fact I was sleeping for 7) so perhaps I'm getting a little more "clarity" on this subject. I agree about matching and repeating and really look forward to your reveal! Ranton, those uppers are 30" wide, 19" deep to the front of the overlay doors. The base cabinets are set away from the wall, and granite is 29". Uppers are 19" above the lowers, 18" with light rail. The downside is that there is too little useful space at the edge for the coffee maker, the upside is that I can fit a gazillion plates and glasses in there, and the microwave (18" deep, 13" high, Kitchenaid model KCMS1655, purchased to qualify for rebate) fits easily as would many other models. The design didn't start that way, there was an early hiccup around the angled cabinet; the previous plan was for the micro to get set back into the wall a little. Some white cabinet trim will be added around it before we are done, and I don't really care if lack of ventilation shortens its life as I know I can easily replace it for less than $120. I wish I didn't have to have a micro, but the placement of this one is the least objectionable for my design....See Morefrancoise47
