I think white is the best paint color for you given the house and roof color. I would use a soft, darker shade of white.

What are the three plants in front of the porch?

I would paint the wrought iron posts glossy black. I would paint the area right around the garage door the same almond color. I would paint the fascia a deep dark red brown and the soffit almond. I would get a mid-century door with windows and paint it a light bright green.

Add perennials and annuals to you garden and lower the bushes on the right side of the house.

I am not fond of the shade of green you already have, but, I do think it works with your mid century home. I might change it a bit though, to a very dark teal color, which was typical of mid century homes. I agree, about the front door, that oval, does not say mid century. Mid century doors were more like these

Thanks for all the suggestions. Off-white with a bright colored, mid century door was the direction I was leaning, so it sounds like I’m on the right track,

@emmarene9, I think the small plants are boxwoods, but I am going to pull those out along with the stones and redo that bed with some more mid-century appropriate, Texas native landscaping - maybe grasses or succulents. And here’s a close up of the iron scrolling that you asked for (dirty and coated in that ugly green paint, but in good shape otherwise).

I like housson's rendering except for the almond color above the garage doors, just makes the garage doors look big, big, I think the deep dark red brown there would look better

My 1958 ranch has similarly colored brick. It currently (from the prior owner) has medium brown trim and cream colored siding on the addition out the back. I do think it blends well but is kind of blah.

I’vd seen a few houses near me where the trim is a deep, blue/gray that’s very attractive but I’m not sure it’s a mid century modern color.

I would paint that wall near the door to make all the very cool mcm features stand out.

@justerrilynn, thanks! Your design actually looks really nice. The house is all 4 sides brick and in amazing shape and I’m not open to painting any of that, so that wouldn’t work for me. But I do like how it brightens the entrance up. The soffit / porch overhang is super dark green and is causing the entry to look dark. I’m hoping by painting that all White and adding a bright MCM front door I can add some light to that area.

I get not wanting to paint as Terrilynn suggests, but just that small section really accentuates the rest of the brick! What about a long rectangular skylight over the porch area to brighten it up? Would that be historically inaccurate?

Ann, good idea about the lighter trim. I may have it too bright but I like.

If you lovinly restored your 1958 ranch interior to look like a 1958 ranch interior, why don't you restore the outside to look original as well?

@Brown Dog I don’t think anywhere in my post I said I wasn’t trying to do that. The only changes made on the exterior over the past 60 years have been trim paint and door. Those are the things I’m looking to change. If you have suggestions on how make the outside look original, please do let me know. I have no idea what colors were used on this house in 1958.
