Comments (30)Alameda - Gypsy Sue bloom size is about 3-4 inches. The flower is very full, like the English roses. Although it is advertised as apricot, I would consider it to be a white rose since the slightest bit of sun easily fades the color. It is also a very narrow rose, but very tall at 6ft. In Texas, I would guess that it would climb. Another characteristic about Gypsy Sue is that the flower is easily damaged, by rain, by wind, by sun, by insects, it's very delicate. Nevertheless I still like it, the spring flush last year was terrific. I took some very unflattering photos and hesitate to show it. These were taken after digging it up and moving it to a different location while it was in bloom. I don't grow Brazos Belle but it looks very nice on their website. Comments (2)I used to grow Star of the Republic in my Indianapolis garden. She thrived on neglect when I couldn’t care for her and continued blooming. She was healthy and vigorous for me. She was very floriferous. My friend grows her in Utah and more or less same results. When the heat gets too much for other roses in the middle of summer, Star of the Republic keeps on blooming. So definitely heat resistant....See MoreAntique Rose Emporium-rose size?
Comments (37)Thanks all! He might look great in the photos, but he's a fussy little devil. Diane, I was looking at some of my photos of baby Abe and the stems were rather spindly on them also. I can't remember if these are two or three year-old plants. I've given them away because they were not happy in pots. Or rather I thought they were not happy in pots, but the problem was me. I didn't water them enough in the hot summer and then the water just ran down the sides between pot and rootball. Then when I soaked them enough, I soaked them too much. Growing in pots is tricky here....See MoreFragrant Blush, Gypsy Sue, or Prairieville Prince?
Comments (16)I have Fragrant Blush since October 5, 2022. It was the first of my roses to get blackspot this year and continually gets blackspot, even on new leaves. I almost never spray and the only rose I have with worse blackspot is Golden Celebration, which got blackspot AFTER Fragrant Blush. Now, in May 2023, Golden Celebration's blackspot is worse than Fragrant Blush, but Fragrant Blush is right after. I have Abraham Darby that also likes to blackspot and it’s better than Fragrant Blush. I separated Fragrant Blush from all my other roses because of this. I am not sure if I messed up something with the fertilizer or soil to cause all this blackspot. But out of 62 roses, this and Golden Celebration are the least healthy from blackspot. The other issue I have is that Fragrant Blush sends out very long canes and did not like being pruned. I will try to see if I can train the canes horizontally next. Maybe Fragrant Blush just needs more time. I also have Star of the Republic and Sultry Kiss, bought at the same time from The Antique Rose Emporium, which do not have this blackspot problem at all. Star of the Republic and Sultry Kiss are very healthy. Sultry Kiss has cupped blooms that stay cupped and a strong old rose fragrance, and they last at least a week on the bush (but we have not hit 100 yet, only intermittent 90) - love this one! I don’t know why Sultry Kiss is not listed on Antique Rose Emporium’s website....See MoreLilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca
