Wood trim/framing around patio doors for stucco house?
Comments (1)If the doors are exposed to the elements, the most important issue regardless of whether you trim it out with wood, or stucco patch to match the existing, is that it is properly flashed/sealed behind it all before covering it up. I'll be installing a window in a stucco exterior wall in a few days and I asked how the homeowner wanted it finished, they chose to match up the stucco. A trick I've learned since matching the color coat is difficult at best on a project like this for many reasons, is to base coat the color coat,(typically white), and match the texture. Once that has cured/dried, take a piece of the original stucco color coat down and have some acrylic latex exterior paint matched up to the original stucco color and feather it in around the patched area. It's typically not a good idea to paint over traditional stucco concerning large areas, but using acrylic for small patched areas isn't going to hurt. Again the most important aspect of the project being flashing/sealing behind not interrupting the drainage plane...See MoreCost of new Patio Sliding Glass Doors! Oh no!
Comments (6)Denise, Is anyone still reading this old thread? I stumbled upon this thread while trying to figure out what kind of patio sliding door I have because I need to order a replacement handle set. From what I see in your pics, you and I have the exact same door, down to the # of screw holes in the operating panel where the handle set goes. There are no labels on my door either, except the name Guardian printed in white on the corner of each panel. I checked out the Jeld-Wen Caradco connection but it seems those are only premium wood doors. Mine's vinyl. I can't take the operating panel off myself, and I have no help to do so. Anyone have any new thoughts? The door is only 5 years old, but the metal handle snapped right off the other day and I need to find a replacement. Home Depot generic sets are the wrong ones. (differently placed screw holes) Thank you! ~Kristen...See MoreSeeking Advice for New Patio Door
Comments (12)Thanks windowsonwashington. I did a little more research today and am starting to lean towards the Marvin full line door with LoE-366, prairie 9 grids and the integrated blinds. I was never a big fan of in the glass mini blinds, and I like how they've come out with the Levolor style push/pull fabric shades that sit behind the glass. Might end up with sticker shock when I get a quote, but thankfully only have to buy one door at the moment. Will check out Andersen and Provia as well. Not familiar with Provia, but I was thinking that either Andersen or Pella had a door that was similar. Simonton has been great for the windows ... no complaints ... but I think I'm going to pass on them for the patio door. Just seems like there are better options available. Thanks again for the feedback. John...See MoreArranging new patio furniture in midcentury home
Comments (32)Yikes ravencajun! That is certainly a major project! I had issues too, because my flat roof is so large and I did not want gutters. I had roofers tell me they werent interested. One roofer gave me a price of 65k! I think the roofer I used said with carport and patio overhangs it was 7000 sq. ft. (!). I have had issues since it was installed, not with leaking, but with trying to direct the water away from the new concrete patios. The patios are not sealed and the water was leaving white spots (I guess from the roof materials). This is also why we put the flower bed in the middle of the back patio-to catch some of the runoff. Now that he's redirected it, it's leaving white spot at the front entrance. Argh! Maybe ask your roofers where the water will run off when it rains? You will love having a new roof though! Thank you jakabedy! It will look better when that damn electrical wire is buried, the pool equipment hidden, and the chain link comes down. I just have to wait a couple more weeks. With all the GW people visiting, I should buy that anthropologie bar and learn to make a good martini! Where I live, there are a lot of critters. When moving the patio furniture from the carport to the back yard, I had to leave multiple doors open. I also left the doors open while cleaning the kitchen floor that night. I should know better than to do this, because last time I did this, a kangaroo rat got in the house. This time, a thrasher got into the house (got him out safely), and this guy! Argh! I WAS NOT HAPPY SEEING HIM IN MY HOUSE....See Morearcy_gw
