Corner Fireplace dilemma

Hello everyone, I have a corner fireplace that is driving me bonkers. I am not sure if I should be decorating the mantle or the wall behind it, or both for that matter. I'm trying to go with a minimalist/Scandinavian decor. The fireplace is located in the livingroom. there are elements of nature throughout the room, plants, wood (coffee/console tables and knick knacks), as well as white throughout the room. Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Pretty space! Love the color.

That's an electric fireplace, right? I have one in my library and enjoy it. Is that the only corner in the room where you can use it? I ask because it seems a little too close to the doorways. If it must stay there, I'd accent the top with a simple piece of pottery that's large enough to make a statement and leave it at that.

Yes it is electric. Unfortunately that is the only corner available. Thank you .

Thank you nhbaskets. I like your fireplace. The dilemma I've run into is that the fireplace isn't square to the corner, so my taking the tile up to the ceiling probably isn't going to work. I might try something like in the picture below. This layout looks so much like our house. I'm thinking Framing the upper part in - then maybe putting stacked stone on the upper and lower fireplace sections with the mantle in between. I can't come out too far on the upper left because there is a window frame in the way.

Emrit, I stole a slate tile fireplace for your room. Actually, the original photo was a bit too gray, so I warmed it up a bit. You'll have to get tile samples and bring them into your room to see how they look in your light.

miter the edge of tile and space them the same size as your grout joints if offsetting tiles do not do 50% instead use 33% or 25% so at the corner continue the pattern and create a wrap around with 1/16" grout joints. This creates a sharp corner I suppose you can call it but done right looks great with most tiles. play around with offset sizes and make the return grout line the start and finish of what ever offset tile pattern may work.

Go to Ikea and get a few of their Billy bookcases. They’re well built, very inexpensive, and come in several colors. Then your many items will look organized. That’s what we did when money was an issue. They were still in great condition when we moved 30 years later. You can store your kiddie stuff on the lower shelves, and adult (cooking supplies) higher up.

What if you hung something from that bit above? Admittedly, sometimes I have an idea and I'm the only one who thinks it's good...

Something like a mobile or...something hanging, natural...Idk...just throwing it out there :)

I guess I'm trying to suggest "hanging art"...

I'd get a great, large painting and rest it on the mantel, across the corner.

Not a mirror like this, but placed like this.

Corner stoves are common in Scandinavian architecture. Since they are functioning (hot!) the stove itself is the decoration.
