Storm damage

The winter storm of February 12-13, 2019, is one for the record books in the north state. The trees took a big hit due to the heavy wet snow.

A big tree fell across the road and took out the power lines. After power crews cut up the tree, cleared it off of the road and restored power, hubby dug out the stump that was still partially blocking the road.

It was a monster!

It was good to have the road clear of storm debris.

After they come down ----then you rent a hydraulic log splitter and spend the next few weekends cutting, splitting and stacking.

My poor poinsettia is on its last legs but has decided to throw out red bracts everywhere.

Oh gry that breaks my heart seeing such a big beautiful majestic tree like that destroyed. We have lost many around here from storms and extremely hot and dry weather conditions. I hope at least some of that wood was salvaged for furniture or bowls or something like that.

This was last summer. It's a huge crepe myrtle tree in my backyard. It is my favorite tree and favorite place to to sit outside. So far this spring it has not put on a single leaf or shown any sign of life. I am very afraid that it has died for some reason. All my other crepe myrtle trees are full of leaves. It was so spectacular last year blooming till the very end of summer. I am praying everyday that it comes back! There's no sign of damage or bugs or disease. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

A 60-70 ft eucalyptus tree fell down during wind storm. DH cut it up for firewood and eventually he cut all 12 of them down. Still cutting down trees in his mid 60's. (Won't listen to the voice of reason - me!)

Raven - we had 5 crape myrtles that were about 12 years old in our yard. One spring 4 of them put out their usual flush of new leaves but one didn't. My arborist said that it isn't all that unusual but he didn't have a reason for it.

Be patient, Raven. Crapes sometimes seem to have a mind of their own.

I really hope it's not gone. I have seriously been praying for it daily. It would be such a loss. We only have 2 trees in the backyard. It and a Bradford pear and we know how weak those are.

ravencajun, the broken oak in my photo was in a wilderness park, so they might have just left the fallen branches to rot and become homes for wildlife.
