living room lighting with floating furniture

Our living room has 2 couches which are perpendicular to the fireplace and float in the room. there is at least 4 feet behind each one, they don't come close to any wall. we have a ceiling fan with light, and sconces on each side of the fireplace. Currently I have 2 floor lamps which get used the most at night, overhead seems too harsh.

The lamps are next to an occasional table and a standing short bookshelf. I am tired of this look and trying to update.

Do I need the extra light? My gut says yes, but I am tempted to just take them out and see, maybe could get by with only one?

What does everyone think about a hanging swag light that would be in one corner, the cord would be visible so probably do something like a macrame cord or similar.

We have thought about putting sofa tables behind the sofas, but any lamp on there would have a cord that ran over to the wall and be in a traffic area, we have no floor outlets, only on the walls.

Suggestions?
