UPDATE: No Limit Plant Swap #2
Comments (150)OMG I had a post all typed out and this thing ATE IT!!!! Man, I wish I hadn't missed the Mini Roses Cindy! I didn't have the Cleopatra, I have Orange, 1 Bengal Tiger Baby, small mini red Cannas. Please do list a wish/wants list Cindy so if there is anything we have we can offer you then we will ;). New Request from Cindy: Zebra Grass I am looking for ANY grasses I plan on putting in a grass bed at the top of our driveway so we don't have to mow up there anymore :) I put in some rocks with the house number all ready and our neighbor gave us and ornamental solar light decoration to go up there!!! Tammy you asked me how the spiderwort looked lining the drive, there wasn't as much left over after the swap as I thought there would be. I DO have some I got from my mom and a friend though, not sure if it will cover the lenght of the drive or not. And I haven't really decided if I want that or that red mini grass I forgot what it is called at the moment... OK posting thread #3 now too. :) Fran...See MoreUPDATE: No Limit Plant Swap Shipping and Receiving
Comments (62)The PO used to have bigger boxes, BUT of course with the cost of everything rising and getting smaller (you know those 50 lbs bags of dog food? well they cost a LOT more now and you only get 40 lbs! sugar used to be in 5 lb bags a lot are going to 4 lbs now) they raised their shipping prices and decreased the size of the boxes you can get! SO NOT FAIR! I am about to head out to start working on my plants, it is my plan to get EVERYTHING done today, including repacking all the boxes and sending back tomorrow...WISH ME LOTS OF LUCK and hope NOTHING pops up today to slow me down dog it! Amy I DID get both boxes, but to tell you the truth, I got one opened and found the philo plant and the cuttings and thought that was all I was supposed to receive from you so I didn't look to see who the other packages were for LOL. I will look at them then hehe, I so sorry. Ahhh, Theresa, I wasn't expecting you to cover the box. Most people to not cover them anymore because the PO system seems to deliver them anyway. I used to, and it is actually easier to cover a box then you think LOL. I have, like last year, I mailed a box that wasn't brown, it had colored pics on it, IT was HUGE anyway, it had colored pics on it and I had to cover it because the whole box was like the slicky pic kind and it had to be covered. The trick is to place the brown wrapping paper down on a table, then place the box on it, bring the paper up and over the top to meet, tape it down, then fold a side, starting with one, side of the side until you have all four sides folded over, you know how you do wrapping anyway, do both sides and it is all done. EASY lol. Like I said though the trick is to put the paper down first then put the box on top. :). Amy, I have been swapping/trading a LONG time. The best way is to make sure the plastic isn't touching the stem. It CAN rot it, it doesn't always and if it is a tough plant it will usually be fine but more thinner type plants will not. Theresa, your plants looked ok. I don't recall seeing any plastic touching, BUT I have redone a lot of them without knowing which ones I was working with. It is just a habit I have gotten into, just redoing what needed it when it needed it. So, I don't really see whose plant it is LOL, UNLESS I have a whole box to do at one time THEN I know whose I am working on. I am not going to be able to send the Pink Ice Plant, it looks so bad and it would only be a VERY SMALL snippit. I would hate for it not to make it. So, I would rather not send it with a chance of it not making it. I want to let it grow and then when we do another one in the Spring if those of you who requested it join then I will send it to you then, cross your fingers it recovers, I have been checking it a lot and it looks REALLY REALLY bad. I am not sure what happened to it, the purple ice plant is right next door to it and nothing is wrong with it so I have no idea what happened to the pink one! I am so upset about that, I have wanted the pink forever and when I found it I was tickled so much NOW it is dying! ERRRRR!!! Ok, I think I have touched on all I was going to mention OH, I haven't taked pics of all the plants that comie in yesterday, I opened those boxes somewhere else, NOT in my livingroom where my camera was so I wasn't thinking until AFTER I had opened anyway, when I pack the boxes I am going to TRY to remember to take pics of them :)... Later ladies have a great day! :) Fran...See MorePersonality & Building - What does it take?
Comments (17)I'm almost done with a middle of the road (cost-wise, for my area) build, and even though I thought I was prepared for this.....I have to say it just about did me in. What shocked me is how many things go wrong, take longer, and cost more than you ever thought possible. It seems like every stinking day something wrong happens. I went into this "sort-of" knowing that, and yet at a certain point the never-ending problem-du-jours pushed me to the edge. You are right, I think someone's personality has a lot to do with how well they can sustain the process of building a home. I thought I was a "roll with the punches" person, but again after months and months of it, I admit I'm probably only one minor problem away from being a lunatic right now. Another thing to consider - I planned this house for a long time. I mentally walked the hallways, thought about the way it would live, placement of things, etc.. And so we built a home because I thought I could get it exactly the way I wanted it. Layout, function, colors, etc.. It turns out nothing is ever perfect. (Shocking, I know, Ha-ha.) But there are several things that I would already change if I could. Some of them are my fault, in that I didn't notice some things on the plans - but then again, at a certain point the details overwhelmed me, so some mostly minor stuff got lost along the way. I mention that only to say that NOTHING is ever perfect. You have to weigh the pros and cons along with really knowing yourself and how well you will survive a long, stressful process. I'm not quite done yet, so ask me again in a few months. As it stands right this second, I am wondering if we should have just bought an existing home. It definitely would have been a lot cheaper, and likely less stressful too. But then again, I do LOVE 95% of my new house, so it is possible a few months from now (once I'm in and it's done) that I will say it was totally worth it. Who knows....See MoreWhat Should A Person Know Before Leaving Home?
Comments (43)I agree money and how to handle it and also credit cards too and put away for that rainy day plus for future too. Yes, laundry how to do it, cook skills how to make simple meals at least. How to maintain car and where to take it in wherever they go to school. Budgeting and not buying everything in sight and have those zillion tags and not wear or use. How to clean, someone mentioned one time a gal didn't know how to sweep so teach those things. How to keep yourself safe and maybe see about they go to classes to protect themselves when out in the world alone. Teach about drinking, guys and date rapes, and stuff that they can put in drinks and do not ever leave your drink alone, hang onto it and if you do slip away from it, get another fresh one. So in numbers anywhere, don't go alone. What to so when sick, things to take for what, etc. as many moms rush down and care for them or they rush home. Always check your car before getting into it to make sure no one is inside or can pop inside when you unlock it. How to fill it up with gas, laugh but many don't do it. Chop up all cards except for one for emergencies and keep it only for emergencies. Teach about future costs of when you finish schooling and you say I am going to travel, the costs and what that involves. Buying your own place or even renting your own place or sharing, what you look for in roommates. What costs are you looking at, furniture and rent, food, medical, dentist, clothing, all those things of life. How to put away for all that and pay out monthly as they come along. Teach about what to get in medical insurances, etc. How to do interviews, references, etc. Make sure they have flip flops for school for the washroom so they don't pick up athlete foot, etc. I have heard a must to wear in the washrooms. Watch your surroundings at all times. kathy...See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
