Large living room window covering

I have 3 living room windows with an approximate width of 106”. My ceiling is 9’. I would like to keep my faux wood blinds and soften them up with curtains. What size do I buy? The standard 50/52” wide panels do not seem to be enough.

The decorating mantra is usually high and wide. Like mentioned above, just make sure the ceiling and the rod don't look cramped.

So what I am taking away from the comments is to purchase 95” length but hang with rings to achieve another inch or two based on rod placement. Also as far as width, a total of 4 panels, 2 on each side. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with cawaps and others. Your trim throughout needs to be the same pure white color and finish. Your ceiling looks fine to leave as is. Concerning window treatments... I notice you have a heat vent just below the window. I think it would be both functional and attractive to hang pleated shears that brush the window sill. You could hang them from the top of the window or at the level of window locks. I would hang a drapery panel on each side of the window on a single rod perhaps in a dupioni silk. A stripe would look nice.

Is it a rental or do you own it? Just asking to get a sense of what you're allowed to do and what $$ you may want to invest. Great solution for a tv stand - nice to find one so shallow so it doesn't stick out into the room/walkway! Do you ever open the blinds or are they always closed? If it were my space, depending on the desire to have them open some of the time, I'd probably install top down bottom up shades. Then, if privacy is needed, you can have the bottom of the windows covered and the tops open for light and to see the sky (hopefully) once in a while. There are choices for the amount of opaqueness you want/need.

They are called hurricane impact windows for a reason. There are strict guidelines for impact AND water infiltration. You need a dealer who specializes in these to get the correct information. As far as burglary concerns, this glass will break but not come out of the frame. Ask a PGT dealer for the pictures from an attempted burglary when a crowbar was used on several units but the glass stayed in the frame. One of our commercial customers showed us and the sheriff’s office surveillance tape of two men throwing a concrete block at the glass. The concrete block bounced back and hit on of the unlucky participants! Yes, the glass shattered but because it is actually two pieces of glass with a triple vinyl inner layer and a specially designed frame that holds the glass in a deeper pocket, it did not come out of its frame.

UGGG find a happy medium between the graph above. Curtains have no business being hung at the ceiling and who wants to collect dust bunnies on the floor!!!

Hi, Mary Ann--

The folks above have some great tips for you, but I'd also search for a retailer that sells double-wide panels so you don't have to worry about seams separating or pocketing between panels. Pottery Barn sells them, and they're 104" wide - I'd look for something similar if a standard-width panel isn't enough by itself on each side. Cheers!
