My hard work is paying off!

As you may know I've taken up 3 cardio classes and a Zumba Gold class every week. The Zumba just started last week so it's too early to see any results.

But today one of the men at the cardio class told me that I look fantastic. He said he sees the changes in me from when I first started. Hubby and I were both going to go, and there are couples who attend the classes.

I know that my legs have toned, I need to buy new jeans all the ones I own are falling off me. But boot-leg cut are extinct. Everything I see are skinny, slim and jeggings. Ugh, those are not me one bit.

Anyway, going somewhere at a set time on a schedule, huffing and puffing are working!

Oh what a feeling! I just got back from my Zumba class and there are a couple of women who have been going to that and the cardio classes for years. All along they've just talked to the 'regulars' people that have worked out for a long time.

Today part of the routine was to high-five each other. They both came over to me and made a point of high-fiving me and laughing! I'm one of the group! :D

Good for you! How long have you been going?

I usually find decent jeans at Land's End and LLBean. I know I'm out of step with the younger crowd but since I almost always wear a belt I prefer jeans that sit at my waist. They offer straight leg along with boot cut and the skinny (not on your life will you see me in those) jeans.

Sunday - Already having to water every day now. Lugging a hundred feet of hose around to water every day is a major drag. (ha ha). I enjoy watering, but dragging the water hose is no fun. The biggest tasks I did today (Sunday) were these: I pulled and dug grass and weeds and old plant debris out of one of the iris beds in the circular garden on the north side. Haven't been able to do that in several years, so it was in bad need of cleaning out. I let the water run and that made the weeds come out much easier and settled the dirt back down while watering them at the same time. There is still a third yet to do to finish that bed, but I had to stop for awhile. I got really hot and tired. When I am done, shredded wood chips mulch will go in there. It looks so much better already. BTW, my bearded irises have buds, so they will be blooming any time now. The minis irises are finished and the dwarfs have been blooming for a week. They a repeat bloomers. Later, I used my old-fashioned cultivator and prepared a twenty-foot bed in the vegetable garden. Then I set out ten of the broccoli plants there. There are probably 30 or more little plants yet to set out (somewhere). I only planted 20 seeds! How did 20 seeds grow 40+ plants? The rest went back into the greenhouse until I can till up a place for them. The soil is great in the vegetable garden this year because of all the manure-hay I put in there last year. I made one-inch collars by cutting paper towel tubes into 1-1/2 inch sections and placed them around each broccoli plant to deter cutworms from chewing through the tiny stems. I do that with tomatoes, cabbage, and peppers too. It works! I cultivated the potato beds - two 20 ft rows, to loosen the soil and then cultivated the path between one row of potatoes and the newly planted broccoli bed. The fern-leaf dill is up behind the broccoli where I sowed it earlier this month. Broccoli benefits from dill. I cleaned out the path along the asparagus bed where I planted the strawberries earlier this month too.(or did I do that in March??). Gotta keep the weeds down before they get away from me and drop seeds. Then I watered everything in there. I cut the lower limbs off the cedars on the east side next to the vegetable garden to allow more air and light into the yard and garden. I can't start the chainsaw (can't yank hard enough), so I had to use my bow saw. Ugh. The cedar branches like to et me up! I am allergic to them. Breaks out with an itchy rash and bumps like poison ivy, only the cedar's oil burns my skin too. Then DH came home and he came out and we hauled all the clippings up to the burn pile. He got out his chainsaw and cut down the big hackberry tree that was leaning over the garden. He cut all the smaller limbs off so I could throw them over the fence where he could drag them up to the burn pile too. Boy, do I hurt all over, but it looks great. Lots of sunshine now for growing tomatoes, okra, corn, beans, cukes and what-have-you. BTW, DH is going to buy me that little tiller so I can cultivate the rest of the garden. (he will probably use it too. He likes playing with gadgets and gizmos) :) Tomorrow, if I can walk, I am planting two rows of bush beans in between the two rows of potatoes. This is to confuse potato bugs when they fly over. It works. Marigolds will be transplanted on each end of the potato rows to help with repelling beetles. Garlic is growing along the other side of the potato rows. The radishes and beets are growing very well as are the onions. More onion sets will go into the garden in May to extend the green onions through summer. The strawberries are blooming and the asparagus are coming up. We will have to finish eating the rest of the strawberries I put up in the freezer last year to make room for this year's crop. Found more Morels today too. Yippee! Discovered that the Liatris bulbs I planted last week are up already. I never grew them before, so am thrilled. It was just such a beautiful day - I did not want to spend it in the house. Hi Rich, Nice trees. I don't know anything about pruning trees in your zone, but someone up there will. It's breba figs that form on last year's wood and they pop out on the branches, but with no leaves. That's how you can tell they are brebas. Hi graywings, I started reading this thread without noting the dates the posts were written. Dave, I don't want to put you on the spot, but I am wondering how the accounts you spoke of in 2007, the 72c Guaranteed Savings accounts (equity-indexed fixed life contract, or annuity contract) have weathered over the last three years. Heh... you can "put me on the spot" in this regard *ANY* time ;~) Both the equity indexed life & annuity products have *VERY* strongly outperformed the unprotected stock index markets over the same periods of time (since 2007. In fact, going back from today to almost as far as you'd like.) Their design is that they capture & credit any annual upside (to a maximum gain,) and lock that amount permanently to your credit. On any years with a downside, your account sits tight with no losses at all (guaranteed by the insured backings of the company reserves and the state's guarantee association (each state's equivalent of a regional "FDIC" in essence.) If you put $100,000 in the S&P 500 for the last decade, you'd actually be holding a bit LESS than $100,000 today (not deducting the tax or management fees that may also be applied.) The same $100,000 in an insured indexing account would be approximately $211,768, net of everything (taxes & fees,) *OR* about an average annual tax-free rate of return of 7.06% Alternatively, those folks who decided to take their working capital OUT of growth, and put it into their real estate equity, have been double-stung; Not only have they gained nothing toward retirement, their equity values have decayed from 10-30% (depending on the area.) OK, got a full installation of linux dual-booted w/windows 7. Risky and at first bootup, windows "disappeared" -- I could only boot to the linux partition. With the help of EasyBCD, finally got it working and EasyBCD doesn't change the windows mbr (master boot record), just adds a small, custom mbr on the windows partition that links to the linux (3rd) partition when you choose linux from the bootup menu -- a simple & noninvasive method. If I had to reinstall windows, it would be easy/quick to set things back up for the dual-boot.

Janie, I'm in Canada, and I don't shop clothing online. I have to try everything on........several pairs of the same size all fit different. I hate shopping.

If you don't mind shopping thrift stores, I've had good luck finding nearly new and even new with tags still attached boot cut jeans.

Boot cut jeans are not a thing of the past as several companies still make them. I do not know if you were told this or simply have not seen them. The major makers Lee and Levi still make them.

If you have something like a western wear store, Levi's will definitely have boot cut cause the cowgirls wear them with their cowboy boots :)

Terrific. Jean shopping is the worst. I have gotten used to online as the petite selection in the stores are very limited.

Be patient. You will find what works, then stick with that.

I agree with the skinny jeans. I though that it would be over with by now.

There are straight cut jeans. Gap has them.

Just go for the slim jeans not jeggings. Ther are not tight on the legs and with your new figure you will look great. They waist high ones. Look around at the mall and you will see lots of older gals wearing them and you will look very stylish.

Jasdip, good for you and isn't it nice that someone noticed and gave you a compliment. I think jeans are available in numerous styles and you will be all set once you find who carrys the ones you prefer. It doesn't help that you dislike shopping. Maybe if you have friends that enjoy it, they might have some suggestions.

Great job! So happy for you! Didn’t join any exercise classes, but got my first 12 yards of mulch delivered. If my sore muscles are any indication, I will give you a run for your money with the toned legs. I like LL Bean Jeans. Got a couple of the Lewis signature ones, but they seem to loose the shape during the day. Fit nicely in the morning but kind of slip later in the day.

Whoop WHOOP! Keep it up! I'm on month 5 of getting 10000 steps every single day. I still have to get on the treadmill today even though I dont feel like it but I am going to do it!

I only wear bootcut jeans. I find them online but send about half of them back because of fit. You're right that the same size by different brands are NOT the same fit. So frustrating.

Way to go, Jasdip! Hope you are successful in finding jeans.

Just my take on jeans....I found that NYDJ brand stretched out too much after wearing. I do have a pair of AnnTaylor jeans I like and a pair I got at Nordstrom recently that are straight leg. I think the brand is Mavi. Very comfortable and reasonably priced. Do you have those stores in Canada?

I have long legs and a long waist so have to look for the high rise jeans that come in leg lengths or a tall size. It’s so hard. I don’t know how anyone gets into those skinny jeans. My legs are slim and they feel like my compression tights.

IF you have a Mark's Work Warehouse near you try there for bootcut.

Congrats on your hard work. And I'm glad you are going to the classes, even though it's alone. You've probably been going long enough now that people will miss you if you're not there and there is something nice about that.

Jasdip, I'm in Canada too. Mark's and Old Navy both have boot cut (so does the Bay but $$$) I know, because that's all I wear too.

Got for you. Way to go!!! Are you feeling more energetic too? I am planning on joining the YMCA before the end of the month. I got a free 3 day pass and liked it. This month is zero joiners fee and $1 a day for the first month. I wish they had more afternoon classes, but pool classes start near week! No advice on jeans. The last ones I bought are elastic waisted capris from Walmart. I wear them with tee shirts,

Congratulations, Jasdip! Exercise is simply one of the best things you can do for your health. And I agree that boot-cut jeans are classic. Many stores carry them. I have a pair from nearly 10 years ago from The Gap that I still wear with a heel, and I love them. Take an afternoon to go jean shopping and reward yourself for your hard work.

A store buyer told me that no two pair of jeans are the same. They stack 20-40 pieces of denim on a board and cut through the layers. There has to be a noticeable difference in the resulting pieces even before they are sewn together.

Thank you SO much for your kind words and encouragement!! My cardio classes are at 2 different places with 2 different groups. One, I'm more of a newbie, just a few weeks. And yes, I'm getting to know the people and they're talking with me more. Just last week a lady commented that I got my hair cut and it looks nice :-)

I'm cheap, thrifty, frugal or downright a Timothy tightass. I won't pay a big price for jeans, and Blfenton and nekotish (hi!) I looked at the Mark's flyer and their jeans were $89. I checked Reitmans as well.

The first place I looked were the usual second hand stores and they were all slim cut or not the right size.

I agree with the slim/tight jeans feeling like compression socks!

Anyway, I'll make a point of deliberately looking harder. A g/f likes tOld Navy, and even though she must be a size 0 I'll take her with me. I've never even been inside the store.

Congrats on doing something for yourself. Have you tried Costco or Walmart?

eta: My friend in Ottawa gets hers at Giant Tiger. She refuses to pay high prices. Don't know if there is a store in your area though.

Have you looked at Old Navy? I wear their "curvy" bootcut and they go on sale for 29.99 frequently. Good selection of lengths and rises. Good luck - I hate shopping for jeans!

That's great!!! Good job!!!! I have the same problems as you concerning clothing and pants in particular. I have a 34" inseam, and most pants are floods. If I find a brand/style that fits, even those will vary. Good luck in you search. :)

This is why, if I really like a particular jean or pants and the first pair is too tight, I go outside and get all the available same size jeans/pants. I will usually find an inch difference in the waist.

And now that you're part of the group, people will expect you to show up for the classes, they will watch for you, they will wonder where you are if you miss a class.

I've been going to the same core class for 9 years and although I don't socialize with the other people outside of the class you wind up becoming a group. It's funny how that works out but it's also nice to know that if you don't make it to a class you're missed.

I also go to a Friday morning strength class and occasionally a few of us will go out for a really quick cup of coffee.

My hard work is paying off!
