Your opinions on 36''gas cooktops?
Comments (2)We had a Dacor Preference 36" gas cooktop installed two years ago and absolutely love it! It's stainless, super easy to clean underneath the burners, and all the burners are dishwasher safe. It has five burners, two of which have a low simmer function which is unparalleled, as far as I'm concerned. The knobs are on the top. Our previous electric cooktop in the same area was a downdraft, so we had the disappearing downdraft venting installed with the new cooktop, and are delighted with how well it draws. Total cost of cooktop and vent installed was less than %1,500. If you check the link, click on the Preference feature. Unfortunately, it only shows the 30" model which has only four burners, the 36" model has five. Comments (61)This is an interesting conversation. I, at age 34 currently, have never in my life used gas, and I am an avid cook on my crappy electric coil. I only say crappy cause the thing is FILTHY and disgusting and soon to be swapped out for a smooth top. However, regarding simmering, I have zero issues there, and people are always asking my trick to such great rice, which as you know requires barely a simmer sustained over a duration of time. However, I have a stroganoff recipe that calls for a long and slow simmer and when my friend with gas tried to make it, and said she couldn't because her gas cooktop doesn't allow for a slow simmer - it kept leaning into a full boil no matter how low she turned it. That leads me to believe it's all a matter of experience. There are probably better and worse performing stoves in every catagory - induction, gas, or electric - and that can certainly shape experience and preference also. So this is a case where nobody is right or wrong, and thank God we all have different preferences or else we wouldn't have choices....See MoreWhich 36' gas cooktop?
Comments (5)Have you checked the appliance forum for threads about this? We were going with the Wolf, but ended up deciding to order the BlueStar instead. Open burner; foodies are fanatical for the BlueStar because it has the highest avail BTU (22k) on the 2 front burners-ideal for your wok cooking; the largest capacity oven in a 36" range-and did I mention it's less money than the Wolf? We'd heard the "cook or look" arguments and I admit that the cachet of the Wolf appeals to me (and in our neighborhood for resale value) but once we were able to see the Bluestar in person we found there to be no sacrifice in the looks department. If the aesthetics concern you-you can also order the BlueStar in oodles of colors (like Viking) and/or order red knobs for it (like Wolf.) ;)...See More36" Gas range with easy to clean cooktop
Comments (7)Really, if "clean fanatic" has easy-to-clean as the #1 priority, then induction is the best choice. Done. The next step is to research for a local appliance dealer with a great service reputation - because appliances at every price point can run into problems so the ease of getting them addressed will directly impact your satisfaction with whatever you choose. Finally, induction is in many ways a tech product, so get out there and use them before you buy. You may, for example, find you don't like push button controls and steer towards a range with traditional knobs - better to find these preferances out before you purchase....See Moreunraveled_wi
