Astilbes, how many shades/colour differences are there really?

I have a few astilbes. Mostly white and pink (various cultivars), a ‘visions red’ and ‘Maggie Daley’. I consider ‘visions red’ more a burgundy purple shade and ‘Maggie Daley’ a lavender pink. Of the pink shades, I’m finding quite a bit of variances, clear pink, lilac pink, salmon pink etc.
I tend to group cool colours together and warm colours together. So, if I bought bare root ‘Amerika’ (astilbe x arendsii), would it be considered a cool pink or a warm pink? Anyone have it? Google is not helpful. TIA

If you want a truly red A. Fanal is outstanding. Bronze foliage in spring, clear screaming red flowers on very dark stalks. They eventually fade very nicely to burgundy. The burgundy stays good looking until late fall.

using the proper full latin name.. might??? get you further when using the web ...

at the link.. the first and third pix are amerika ... and look pretty close to the same color.. but for brightness balance on the camera ... [that of course ... presumes you have your monitor set pretty close to reality .... back in the day.. i used to bring cut flowers into the house.. and set my monitor.. so they came out pretty close to reality ...thats a mid summer project ....]

ps: you can take a pic of anything in the house.. and then compare the pic and set your monitor ...

Thanks Ken. The one link ( https://www.plantheritagedevon.org.uk/plant-talk/item/27-astilbe-amerika ) I found discussed the spelling issue as well as a variance in colour based on locations? So was hoping maybe someone knows this particular cultivar .

I have some four years old I think. I divided the one I had into three this spring. Mine is supposed to be fanal. I had about four stems of flowers on each plant, but they in no way looked like your pictures. I really like the foliage though. Mine are possibly in more shade than they would like but I doubt they would like the sun here either. I did move the divisions where they would get more light so we will see. This is a plant that is sold locally.

Olychick, thank you for the link to the waterproof cotton mattress pad! I have a waterproof liner that I purchased from Sleepy's several years ago when I bought my new mattress. It drives me crazy because it doesn't fit well and bunches up. I must be a direct descendent of the Princess and the Pea because just the tiniest wrinkle fells like a rock ledge to me. I have six sheet sets mostly from trying to find that perfect set. I like a crisp feel and it is almost impossible to find. I will soon be buying linen sheets in hope that they will be crisp enough for me. I just gave my DD one of my sheet sets because she needed extra. I suppose I have a mild case of towel hoarding. I have four sets for myself, two sets for DH, 4 towels for my pupsters. I have a monogramed set for each of my DGS for when they spend the night with us. We also have numerous older towels that we use for miscellaneous tasks.

I have been wondering something similar myself. We have tile nearly all over the house. It is good here in AZ because it really keeps things cooler in the summer. I've been wondering about keeping the tile in the hallway, bathrooms, kitchen and laundry, but doing wood/laminate in the living, family and bedrooms. I'm good with the wood in the family and living room. It is the hallway with all the bedrooms that I have wondered about.What makes the transition and flow good? Just similar colors? Anything else?

Here’s the deal. Logs are a little different from other building materials. Even dimensional lumber like stud 2x4s can be painted. The difference is that logs contain moisture. Quite a bit of moisture in fact. You see, logs are much thicker than dimensional lumber. And they contain the full tree, not just a cross section like most lumber. So these logs start out with a lot of moisture in them. Giving them a year to dry out is great, but it doesn’t get rid of all the moisture. Plus, there’s a certain amount of moisture that will always stay in the logs. Astilbe 'Color Flash' has such awesome foliage that I barely recall the flower color! This is one of those perennials that I'm always dividing and planting freely about the place.

I love Astilbes but I no longer have anymore in our garden as it was my experience, over several years that our location was inconsistent with regards to rain fall. (And there is almost nothing in the garden that looks worse than an astilbe which has not had enough moisture ;))

Thanks everyone else! Glad to hear about your experiences with astilbe. I’ve been lucky so far with mine in ground but I’ve never bought bare root astilbes before and will try ‘Amerika’; hopefully they bloom next year and I can place them properly. Right now I did 3 roots to a large pot with moisture control potting mix.I’m sure the ferny foliage will be pretty in the pot and I can accent somewhere this season. I almost prefer their foliage to actual ferns!
