I wish I was close enough to go! The quilt show "season" in FL is over as the winter residents are returning home. I don't think we have another one close to me until September.

My quilting friend took me to my first quilt show. I'd only thought of quilts a household items that could be beautiful. I didn't realize they are an art form!

I wish I were in NYC visiting my sis this weekend. Your quilt is lovely. Such a beautiful layout. May I ask the width of the logs?

Karen - would you be willing to post a photo or two of your quilts?

Both of my grandmothers quilted and I treasure the ones that were given to me - but they were definitely hand me downs. I only have 2 that were actually designed to be showcase pieces, the others were used regularly as blankets and were constructed of odds and ends.

This is my favorite - by any chance do you know the name of the pattern?

I believe it's called a dahlia quilt but am not completely certain.

Fran - thanks - it does look like a dahlia to me but I wasn't sure. It's probably close to 70 - 75 years old.

Maire Cate, it’s called giant dahlia. I made one in blues. Yours is lovely!

Thanks Ms Meow - it is one of the nicest quilts my Grandmother made and the only surviving one with the decorative border and scalloped hem.

What a beautiful quilt and quite the treasure. I love the fancy border.

Well our Quilt Show went really well. Recently got home, tired but happy. I saw someone snap this shot of my submission to the Show. Seemed well lit, so I asked for a copy of the pic.

From another thread I posted here about the late Nancy Zieman's 'Quilt to Give' which I made for Charity in her honor & memory.

With my friend, & collaborator Janice Ewing, fellow guild member, who reserves her amazing long arm quilting for our Charity work. I wish you could see the detail of her work, we are so fortunate in that. Clicking on the pic & you can see a little bit, she used a different pattern stitch in each different column, so fun! And she found the perfect backing for it too!

As to the Show, I had my work 'judged' for the first time & got back some critique of it. Useful, affirming & encouraging, especially for my first time!

The quilts are all lovely, and the quilting is fantastic. I wouldn't dare have my quilts judged. I'd be so embarrassed that I'd probably quit quilting.

But then your 2nd comment was rather a downer on my Happy, Celebratory & Proud thread.

I gather you didn't realize what a downer that was & also note that it also shut down further conversation.

Karen, I’m sorry you were hurt, but I read loisflan’s comment so much differently. I thought she was commenting that her own work could never measure up to what you were displaying here. I love your work and I suspect she does too.

I agree with Delilah. I saw only a compliment about the quilts and honesty and modesty about her own abilities.

I agree with the two previous comments. Lois does absolutely beautiful work. i wish I could attain that same level of perfection. But as remarked, we all have doubts about our abilities when we see some of the extraordinary work done by others.

And I personally appreciate every comment and remark made by her on my work.

Just reading through this thread and I read Lois comment as very complimentary to your work.

Perhaps a question to Lois would have been helpful so the intent is understood, just a thought.

I also understood Lois’ comment to be complimentary (and with humility - shedoes lovely work and sounds a bit self-conscious).

I have only made a few small (very small) quilts. I admire the talent of those who are courageous, persistent and inspiring. I marvel at the results.
