Looking for more Curb Appeal
Comments (21)I have to disagree with those who say that the curb appeal is fine. While the home is lovely, the beds look more like a gaudy antique brooch pinned on contemporary dress. most of the palms seem like they could be worked with, but the hedging, miscellaneous plants and bed lines themselves could use improvement. And in the overall picture, there seems to be a lot of "vacancy" about the yard ... probably on account of lacking street trees at minimum. The piers flanking the drive seem like pieces of an entrance ensemble ... but everything else is missing. As others have mentioned, not much can be submitted in regard to constructive criticism on account of the pictures lacking. Some tips for when you post other pictures ... they should be complete scenes taken from appropriate distances away. For the foundation planting, since it is a large house, you'll need two separate scenes. For the right side, I'd position the camera at the right edge of drive, even with the garage front wall. Pan the camera taking overlapping scenes which include the front of house all the way to the neighbor's house. It is important to keep the camera at the same position for all pictures of the scene. For the left side of house, I'd position the camera in line with the center of the garage front face, about 25' from it. Again, take overlapping shots that pan from neighbor's house to the right side of your house, all from the same camera position....See MoreLooking to give more curb appeal without spending a ton of money
Comments (15)kitasei thank you. The house was built into the 80s and came with an ugly orange stamped concrete. It took me several years to finally convince my husband to shell out the money for the pavers. We chose the same ones for around out pool our back and I couldn't be happy we did it. Where would you suggest the climbing rose? On the right side of the garage? I'm heading to a local nursery this morning. The guys that work there have been amazing in the past so hopefully he can help me....See MoreCurb Appeal Needed! (and more)
Comments (6)nice home! stucco would work, but sure you hire someone who knows what they are doing- aka- not the lowest bid, ask for references, pictures of previous work. the board & baton (garage) will need a rigid substrate. i would not do shutters, they serve no purpose whatsoever, the angles and beautiful tile roof is enough. the black works, but i'm not so sure if the garage door should be black also (the strip of windows is enough) i feel it will throw the facade out of balance, just the trim around the doors. i would replace the 3 lights across the front with large copper lanterns (smaller version by the door), they would pick up the roof color and draw the eye down from the angle roof pitch, and i would not put anything there. the front door would be light wood, strip down what you have, with a natural finish. color would be added with large ceramic pots at the base of the entry posts. the front landscaping looks a little bleak, the gradual sizing works, but some color would add a lot, lighting also. house numbers on the left post? bigger, copper and run vertically. good luck!...See MoreMore curb appeal and landscape advice
Comments (7)There are some wonky architectural details that about which nothing can be done. Others can be painted to minimize that a simple has been subdivided into multiple parts, making the overall picture look busy. I'm using Microsoft Paint, which sucks at changing house colors, but here's an attempt to show the upper trim (near roofs) consolidated as a single trim color (white.) The lower, horizontal trim band, and everything below it, I'd try to make disappear by painting either the body color or something very close to it. Beyond that, the house needs the landing and walk expanded. Get rid of the planting bed at the inside corner of where the walk meets the drive. Plant a standard foundation planting. And it always helps to add windows to a garage door....See Moremmilos
