Comments (13)Advice I always recommend concerning any plantings inherited with a new house is to wait a full season to see what it is you have. There just may be treasures! Those shrubs in front of the windows ARE too tall for that spot, but (depending on what they are) might be lovely moved to another area in your yard. Shrubs of that size would be expensive to buy so if you move them, you are ahead of the game. Since you want to replace the roof/siding, the workmen will appreciate not having them in the way and the shrubs won't get damaged. Just something to think about... I, too, like the mockup's darker color with white trim. Perhaps beef up the trim under the upper windows a bit, and repeat the bay window's style of trim/siding underneath over on the right set of windows to match... As to what order to do the needed work, I would say to do the roof first -- that way the new siding won't be damaged. Good luck and please post photos of the finished work!...See Morefront door color
Comments (31)I removed the shutters next to the door. It looks a lot better.. with the top windows I dont think we can necessarily "patch" the sidings. They were put in about 27 years ago and they probably dont have the same siding part get replaced. Which color do you think would work the best from the options below ?? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Builders-Edge-15-in-x-43-in-Raised-Panel-Vinyl-Exterior-Shutters-Pair-in-008-Clay-030140043008/100376774 Wedgewood blue?? Other siding designs and color suggestions would be aporeciated. ##i am willing to paint the door if needed be. ##i do see the need for a chair or bench...See MoreHelp with curb appeal- making 1950's small house look more modern
Comments (20)I think this house (already is really cute, and) would look great in a stark white/black combo or even off-black/black combo. I love shrubs but this one is big enough that the scale looks odd to me. You CAN rejuvenation prune it and see what happens. Or remove it go with the some spiky grasses, cast iron plants, a blue-green hosta, or if your climate allows, even snake plants. I think all of those would look great. I don't see colorful flowers in front of this one. And just for good measure, that house is so cute!...See MoreExterior House Help Needed!
Comments (16)Thanks cawaps - I hadn’t thought about painting that siding in the bump-out a darker color than the trim to help it recede, and it’s definitely worth playing around with. Jinx - I actually like brick generally, but I think the fake “schmear” on this house is part of what bothers me. If it were a real German Schmear treatment, I think I would like it better. But I agree that painting it is a commitment and expensive, so I’m keeping an open mind. :) Love the suggestions and comments from all, so keep them coming....See More- 6 years ago
