HELP! Should my tile look like this?!?
Comments (32)Thanks, Mongo. Just before the wall with the window, you see a dark blotchy space between the tiles? That is where the hole is for the toilet. The tiles are to be cut around the hole tomorrow, along with the holes for the sink. The floor doesn't bother me too much, except that there are places where I can tell two sheets meet. The space is just a bit too wide compared to the other lines in a couple areas. I don't like that, but maybe it will be less obvious once grouted. Too bad it won't be under the vanity! The room had a very tall marble threshold, which we saved during demo. It's being cut down in height and will go between the hall and room. I'm trying to keep as many original things as possible. It turns out, though, that at this point I'm also getting something else original: problems. Hmm....See MoreShould I get a wood 'valance' over my sink?
Comments (13)One idea I'd like to throw out there if you're trying to add visual interest. We are adding a curved valance, just because I think it looks more finished with the crown molding that is in our kitchen. We also have light fixtures in the room- no cans. In order to "disguise" the 2 fixtures over the sink (so it doesn't look like an excess of fixtures in the room) yet not block the light, we are just using wood to "frame" the valance and placing decorative glass inside this frame. If you have ever visited a glass shop- the kind that stained glass artisans visit, and the bigger the store the better the choices-you will be blown away by the beautiful options. You do not need to do a stained glass mosaic for this idea, you can just put in a large single piece of your choice. I was just there today and I have yet to make a final decision. It's a simple way to do something a bit unique....See MoreCan I get veining granite / marble looking tiles for my shower???
Comments (5)The trouble with tile is that the pattern must end at the edge of every tile, so with a tile with lots of movement, you get abrupt endings at the edge, then abrupt beginnings of a new pattern with the new tile. See, it looks noting like a sheet of your stone, where your eye is drawn to see the flow from one design and color to a new one. Some stone yards so sell large, thinner, shower-sized pieces of stone. It is not a DIY project and it costs a lot. Another option is something called Neolith. It is an impervious solid surface that has strong veining. But not in the colors you posted. Comments (16)> @joseph_corlett Depends upon what part of the country you're in also. Do you get hurricanes? West Coast -- no hurricanes. Just forest fires. > @User. You're going to need an engineered curtain wall assembly to do that justice. We probably won't do any curtains at all. Our backyard when it's finished will be totally private. > @lkbum_gw I'd aslo reccomend contacting a local glass company, one that does commercial installations. Google "commercial glass" for your area. Ooo. That is an idea. I will do that! > @palimpsest One way I am thinking of getting a more open look back is to reduce the number of divisions I am giving that some thought too. Ours isn't too bad from a divisions perspective, but even fewer would be even better. > @dan1888 Thank you so much for linking me to specific product lines. That is REALLY helpful. I will definitely thoroughly look through all of them this week. > @Shasta We considered replacing the sliding glass doors but were able to repair them by replacing the rollers and adjusting them so we just replaced the glass in them too. Who did the repair on your sliding glass doors? Was it the same people who replaced the glass, or are there companies who specialize in sliding door repair? If so, what is that specialty called? Because that would definitely be of GREAT interest. If someone could make these glide smoothly and quit leaking, that would solve everything....See MoreOak & Broad
