Allison - the detail on your mirror is just gorgeous! I'd like to find something similar, but perhaps in an oval shape, given the angles of the vanity. I very much like your sconces also. Thanks so much for posting pics. It helps me visualize my space much better. Thank you, brutuses. This little vanity was purchased on ebay and shipped to me last February! It's been sitting in a crate for most of the year waiting for my much delayed remodel. Was it you who was also converting an antique dresser into a bath vanity? If so, I remember your picture and it was just what I wanted, but unfortunately that style was too big for my space.

Is the vanity in an alcove? If so, mirror the entire alcove and have the glass company cut the mirror for mounted sconces on the mirror. You could also do this if there's no adjacent walls or one wall, and you may have to. You have 38" to fit a mirror and two sconces (countertop overhangs an inch or so). I would want at least 3" between the sconce shade and mirror and the sconce and the wall, so 3" + 3" + width of sconce. I have a 24" mirror over a 36" vanity, which is a fine size for the mirror, but that leaves only 7" for a sconce between the mirror and wall. If you used a smaller than 24" mirror, the sconces might be too close together. I read that 30" - 36" is the optimal spacing for sconces. I always draw this stuff up on graph paper to check spacing and proportions.

My one bathroom has 2 fixtures that can take 100 watts each. I stocked up on halogen (72watt?) that are comparable. It is very bright in my 6.5x9' bathroom with light gray/blue walls. Very bright for husbands shaving. Now with the powder room, you wont need that bright. I'd think a couple sconces with lower wattage such as 40 or 60watt equivalent lumination would be fine. How big is your room. You can always put lower wattage bulbs in a fixture. I have dimmers, but find that i seldom use them. I like going into a powder room that isn't like a surgical suite. I like lights to add ambience with twinkle and drama, and a powder room could be a great place for that IMHO.

What do you mean, "worried about the business"? OH, I think you meant being too busy? My master is fairly large yet not giant by any means, but do have two windows which AM light is good, and that's it. I originally put in three lights that had frosted glass and they didn't offer enough light. Mine are sconces as you probably know now and not over vanity lights. The lights I replaced were long cylindrical lights and took 2 torpedo bulbs per light. Horrible lighting 80 watts total per light and there were three... to be honest I wasn't fond of the lights at all, but got them as my husband liked them as I did the whole plan for decor for the room so let him pick them thinking, "meh"... glad they didn't work :) I think if this is a powder room you might consider this. Look at lights, then bulb sizes so the length doesn't exceed the glass fixture. They do have different bulb sizes. If you are an Amazon member look up the light I copied and pasted and look at some of them. This is not a bath that one would be applying makeup, shaving.... correct?
