mini-saw: vintage mccullough arborist's or 18V cordless Ryobi?
Comments (3)Why not just buy new stihl arborist saw. it will start easy, won't leak for quit awhile and will last very long time. IMO you will spend about as much on replacement batteries for the cordless and of course the batteries wilt over 6 months or so. Let's face it unless you are diehard vintage fan and like to spend more time working on the saw starting it and maintaining it I just get new one and be done with it. I have three vintage saws 10" Lonbard little ligthing, Sears 10" er and 12" poulan #25. ever now and then I feel like old school and work them. When I need to get job done I use the late models I have just because they will start on the first pull and I don't have to maintain the chain nearly as much. Little lighting was the first saw I brought new 1971. $35 dollars sounds like good deal, but I bet you will be cussing on down the road....See MoreCordless, rechargeable trimmers
Comments (4)We have a Black and Decker one from Walmart. $69 Cdn. Works great for the last two years.. No inconvenience of cords, gas, etc. No maintenance. A single charge is way more than is needed to do the trimming along our flower beds, sidewalk. fence, etc. It doesn't have the power to to clear out brush but just fine for the city dweller. (Also quiet like a plug in model). We also use a rechargeable hedge trimmer with the same results. I used to not be a fan of rechargeable tools but they've improved a lot in the last few years. I used to curse rechargeable power drills but now I have two 18v 'Max' brand ones that cost me only $29 each and never touch my expensive Dewalt with a cord anymore. I actually prefer the less expensive models....See MoreRechargable batteries...anyone use them?
Comments (13)I use rechargeables in my phone and camera. I had experience with NiCad, NiMH, and Lithium Ion. Lithium Ion are the best, and do work. The other 2 have too many faults to be useful. NiCD are too easy to ruin and do not have a large number of recharge cycles. Their main advantage is being able to supply large bursts of current; NiMH looses at least 10% or more of charge per week and have limited cycle life. Lithium Ion is the best and these do hold charge loosing only a few percent per month. A charger is needed for all rechargeables. Each of these chemistries output different voltages and in general are not interchangeable. Sometimes, NiCD and NiMH can be used in the same application if the device will accept the voltage difference which is not large....See MoreAnyone have a cordless electric mower?
Comments (21)olychick and chispa, I also am experiencing the same disappointment with my much bragged about Overland cart. It ran great the first four months, had a glitch in regards to recharging. Manual says, "recharge after each use". Well, my step brother says, "Just leave it plugged in". When it started not keeping a full charge for short times, I complained and was told by manufacturer to not keep it plugged in. Only charge for 8hrs. So I would do that if I planned on using it the next day. Other wise left it off the charger. Then there seemed to be a problem with the charger itself. They gave me a new one. Then "maybe you need a new battery". So bought one. Didn't do a whole lot of good. The business I bought it from was very sympathetic up to a point. ha When I still complained it wasn't holding a charge they really couldn't figure it out. I've had it Which your posts make me think now that I'm not alone when it comes to battery operated machines and I'm not crazy. I've had it four years now. Still a tremendous time and back saver, but I do wish it would hold a strong charge longer especially for when making multiple trips with heavy loads. Sorry also for going a bit OT but wanted to share....See Morearkansas girl
