How to get rid of elephant ears?
Comments (43)So funny reading the comments from 16 years ago, esp about using Roundup! Just bought a place that had this gorgeous green elephant ear plant, and I’ve been babying it, helping it bc the Worms like to munch big holes in it, and previous owner didn’t care for it Earlier this year, a baby plant popped up out of nowhere approx 3 feet next to it. It has grow So fast! Almost half the size of the mother plant. And this week, ANOTHER one is sprinting up right next to the baby plant. So now we have a grand baby! Haha That got me researching as to how the hell this could happen, bc I didn’t propagate it, and WALA...looks like it is a bit invasive. What a beautiful plant, I cannot imagine wanting to get rid of it. Totally gives off that tropical vibe, and I hope more spring up...See Moresewer clog???
Comments (7)Did you resolve the problem or get to the bottom of it? I'm wondering if you checked your septic tank. Is it draining properly? Perhaps your drain field is failing. Over time, leaking faucets or toilets can cause serious problems with drain fields With septic tanks, it's vital that toilets be periodicaly tested for leaks. This is most easily done by putting a dye in the cistern and observing if any of the dye transfers to the bowl over a period of time (an hour or so). If it does, you have a leak. Dripping faucets must be repaired immediately, too. Even a very small leak will wreak havoc on a septic system drain field over time....See Moreclogged shower drain -- poss. shaving cream. drano?
Comments (16)"Shame on you, kitchensusie." Take it easy, she wasn't completely wrong, Liquid Plumbr contains both chemicals. The thing is that both are pretty harsh. Just because we are used to using bleach, doesn't mean that it isn't going to cause problems with the finish on the fixtures and such. Chlorine is a strong oxidizer and will cause metal to rust and discolor other finishes. Just a couple of other things I can think of, besides the plunger: 1. Try changing brands of shaving cream. Really, I think a big part of the problem is the formulation of this stuff. It's not really soap at all. 2. Mix a bucket of very hot water and dish soap (Dawn or Palmolive)and dump it down the drain about once a week. See if that doesn't help to remove the gunk. I would have recommended powdered Automatic Dishwasher detergent but it may discolor the marble....See MoreHow to remove wax finish on furniture
Comments (10)I'd suggest removal if one wants to re-stain a different color without obscuring the wood surface with a more opaque finish. For removal of grime I like scrubbing the surface with 0000 steel wool and boiled linseed oil, a method picked up from a refinishing class at the Smithsonian. Mineral spirits would be a little more aggressive, and is probably a good choice to start with for this project. Testing the less aggressive/difficult approach first to see if it gives a good outcome certainly makes sense. I haven't yet found a finish (including wax and silicone-based polishes) that I couldn't remove with a 2:1:1 mixture of methylene chloride, methanol, and lacquer thinner, followed by methanol rinses. Toxic as heck, no doubt, so plenty of ventilation and PPE required....See MoreCherryfizz
