Benadryl sometimes helps.

while it might feel clean, there's the possibility the qtip may have pushed the wax in further...or you might be coming down with a summer cold.

i might try some otc products but if you don't get any relief in a day ot 2 i'd make a appt with the doc...he can wash your ear out, or let you know if you need some decongestant...

you sure don't want to mess around and get an ear infection (like our kids do)

Try a decongestant like Sudafed. If that doesn't work you may have a deeper buildup of wax that you can't get to.

Read this a couple days ago in Reader's Digest.

If you feel like you have water in your ear, its because that part of your ear canal runs down and backward, and gravity is working against you.

The Fix:

Dry your ear with a towel, tilt your head (waterlogged ear toward your shoulder), grab your lobe, and pull it down. (The illustration shows a drop of water running out.)

If you are prone to infection or swimmer's ear, ask your doctor if alcohol drops can help.

I have had DGS Hunter here the last 2 weeks. He went swimming one day, later that afternoon said it feels like I have water in my ear. I tried both the remedies online. Peroxide and rubbing alcohol. I could see they weren't even draining into his ear. The next day he went to see the nurse and when she looked in his ear said there was a huge hunk of wax right there next to her thingamajig. She reached in and pulled it right out.
I'd go in and have it checked if you can't get it to feel better.

Same thing happened to me. I went swimming in the ocean and got water in my ear and couldn't get it out. I went to my doctor. He told me that as you age, the consistency of your earwax changes - it gets thicker. He used an ear syringe and cleaned both of them out for me (the one was completely blocked). I have to go back around every 2 1/2 years or so to have him repeat the process. The results are like night & day!

We've done the ear candling and the amount of stuff that comes out is amazing. Really gross.

I had fluid behind my ear drum for several months, and the ENT dr. just told me to double up on my decongestant. It eventually cleared up and he said he was sorry he couldn't help me more. Hope your problem is temporary, and I'd try the ear cleaning and decongestant.

I'd be really concened about using Q tips. My Dr. told me to never put anything in my ear smaller than my elbow. In othe words don't try myself to get anything out in case I ruptured the drum. I have had a lot of plugged ears but now my present Dr. won't clean them out. He says there is nothing in them. However my former Dr, sent me to a specialist and he said the same thing until he started woking on them and found they had much more than he had thught. Hearing improved immediately. He told me I had to have them done every year. It is very fustrating that I can't find someone to do it now.

How about a decongestant - like Sudafed!
It always works for my son.

I heard that ear candling can be dangerous-the wax can burn your ear. My doctor told me a few drops of vinegar drizzled into the ear canal will loosen and remove wax. I've done this for my kids and my self. Just use an eardropper and a tiny amount of apple cider vinegar. Let it sit a few minutes, then lean so it runs out. It feels much better afterwards.

My doc says to drop some veg oil in there to soften the wax, then it'll come out.

Sometimes I give it some assist with a bulb with a tube squirter on one side, filling it with warm water.

I've been told the story of the elbow, as well ... and don't like the idea of the Q-tip ... seems to me sort of like pushing snow ... into a pile at the far end of the push.

Seems to me it would need to be done with great care - for fear of puncturing the eardrum. Not much hearing, after that.

What we use in the office when we clean out a patient's ears is equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and WARM water (hot will hurt, cold will make you dizzy), and what I tell my patients for after-care is to do the same at home with a cotton ball before you shower at night (or in the morning, whichever you do). Take a capful of hydrogen peroxide and a capful of warm water, drizzle it into your ear with a cotton ball and let it fizzle around a bit. When you shower it'll help bring out whatever's in there. Some people can do this only once a month, some do it weekly or more often. I can't TELL you the size of some of the potatoes that come out of ears if it builds up...
