Some polyurethanes have minimums (all have minimums - you have to find the document that states what that is). I sell a "fast drying" polyurethane (full cure in 5 days....that's almost as fast as it gets). Rugs and FULL USE are allowed after 5 days. That's 23 days SOONER than the polyurethane mentioned above. And even with that, we tell EVERYONE: wait 5 FULL DAYS before covering up with Ram Board. Anything you put down over your fresh poly = potential to "dry into the finish". It's like paining your windows shut! Very annoying and can require COMPLETE REDO. Read the documents. Call the manufacturer if you are unsure. There are so many versions of "fast dry" that I could just choke. Each has their own requirements. I normally like to see the "wait" time for Ram Board to be the same amount of time as "furniture" or "rugs". Which could mean you are waiting MUCH longer than you could imagine. Find out from the manufacturer. And find how how to manage the covering (is it allowed to be taped down? With what? For how long? Do you need to remove the covering after X amount of hours to continue the cure process?).

One thing that helped dramatically to contain the dust during our remodel was putting plastic sheeting up on both sides of each doorway. One day, the guy putting the sheeting up put only one sheet on one of our three doorways, and the dust that escaped was noticeably more near that door. The extra layer of barrier made a huge difference. Also, as mentioned, the nature of the work being done makes a huge difference. Our dustiest day (BY FAR) was the day they dug the trench into our slab to lay the plumbing and electric for the island. No one could convince me that anything on the planet creates more dust than that. The other particular dusty days were during demolition and drywalling. The rest of the job was not particularly dusty at all.

Plastic is way too slippery Paper is rosin paper - that depends 1. It's paper so will only protect from surface type dirts not from a dropped hammer 2. If there is anything trapped btwn paper & floor it will get pushed into the floor 3. Some get the notion that the paper is on the floor so don't work to really protect the floor Is this a newly installed? Is it finish coated? Don't let things like heavy appliances slide over floors even w/the paper - it will leave gouges that can not be repaired unless floor is being refinished -
