Help me keep dated tile but update this bathroom
Comments (21)Since you're changing the floor, I'd change the vanity and leave the tiled tub for now. Tiling a tub is a big expense, and it can be hidden behind a shower curtain. For the floor, you could use LVT, something like Armstrong Alterna or Congoleum Duraceramic. It's warmer and softer than ceramic tile and can be laid right over sheet vinyl and grouted for a ceramic tile look. You'd want tile to go under your vanity. Vanities have gotten taller. If yours is short, I'd replace it with a 34" H vanity. You could buy a sink base and three drawer cabinet from one of the RTA places. I'm most familiar with Barker Cabinets. If you want to keep the vanity, you could order new full overlay doors and drawer fronts from Barkers. You could paint the frame and purchase painted doors and drawer fronts. They offer a medium stain too. That way you can coordinate your counter, floor, and vanity color without being tied to the golden brown color scheme of the tile. I'd also cover that odd niche with a large mirror....See MorePaint colour to compliment original brownish/ yellow bathroom tiles
Comments (7)Here's a potential palette, with the two spa blues being the main paint colors and accents of the other colors with decor. It's actually not a bad start, you might want to see about getting a different temperature of bulbs in the light to help take the "dead" out of things. I'd stay with white over the ceiling of the tub, however, anything dark there will look like a cave....See MoreYellow Bathroom Tile - what paint!?
Comments (22)Compared to your before this is worlds better. In your case I’d recommend the trim match the walls - so go with the Bistro White in a semi gloss. Doing any other white will just look off w the new wall color you have. Not every room has to be trimmed in white and for a second I was going to suggest a darker trim to match your vanity color but I don’t think highlighting the perimeter of the room in your case is the way to go. Once you finish it out with new lighting, rugs and art, etc it will look great....See MoreUpdate dated bathroom (cream tile, oak and polished brass) w/o Reno
Comments (8)These are all very good thoughts! I’ve been looking on Facebook Market and Craigslist for used vanities or floor sample sale items, and I’ll continue to do that. We’ve been by a couple of warehouses that have items from demolition, but nothing has quite worked yet. Habitat for Humanity May be a good place to look though - we haven’t been there! For removing the shower door, I didn’t think of that for a full shower. Can that be done? I figured doors were necessary, and my husband didn’t like the idea of just covering the doors with a shower curtain. Getting rid of it could be good.. I think changing out the mirror, light and paint could be the first step to take sooner than later. Complication to white is that this tile is cream colored. See this pic to see the difference... still neutral at least! I think I can move forward with navy and gold accents, right?...See Moretqtqtbw
