Queen sleeper sofa

Looking for a well made, comfortable sleeper sofa. I am considering either American Leather or Pottery Barn or other suggestions??

Did you make a decision? I've been ready reviews and have read that some of the Pottery Barn sofa fabrics pill up even when fairly new. They are similar price when not on sale. I'm thinking American Leather is going to be better.

The American Leather unit has the same mechanism as the Taylor King and Hancock & Moore sleep sofas, and its stout and solid. The problem with this frame design common to all three of those brands is 1) they are extremely heavy (appx 370 lb) 2) the front arm comes forward to the frame. This results in a every difficult delivery as the unit cannot be taken apart into components. You need a wide doorway to get it into the house (35" minimum) and due to the weight its not going up or down any stairways. While these sleep good as a bed and sit well as a sofa, they are pricey and half our delivery attempts fail with them because of where our clients want us to place the unit. Great sofa if you don't mind spending $ 3K to $ 4K on a unit and its a straight, wide door shot into your room.

Hooker furniture is doing the most innovative leather sleep sofa I've seen in a very long time, it's made in Italy and reasonably priced. You will see photos of the Loveseat size, the Queen is a bit longer. This has quickly become a top seller in my store. Plus (this is my favorite feature) the arms slide up and off the piece, allowing the delivery team to get it into homes and rooms where often they cannot go otherwise. Pretty cool sleeper. I floor these now instead of the big monsters in the first paragraph.

I searched far and wide for a leather queen sleeper and ended up with one manufactured by American Leather (americanleather.com). Sleep comfort was really important to me, and though I was not purchasing it for my primary use, I had never been able to sleep comfortably on any sleeper before. That's now changed. This one is different, the way they do the mattress is unique, it's actually more like padded sections. I've since had many guests and many positive comments, people are really impressed by the comfort. It's still not a real bed, but in the sleeper sofa world I haven't seen anything come close. I don't exactly remember the price, I think it was from about $2,500 depending on type of leather or fabric. Custom delivery is extremely fast. Couldn't be happier.

Update to my posting above. The Crate and Barrel reps called back and left me a message saying they'd contacted Lee who agreed the loveseat wasn't up to their standards and would give me a "do over," but Lee thought the sofa was w/in their standards. Crate and Barrel offered me 10% off. I thought about it and then called them back and said I didn't think that was satisfactory; it wasn't the money, it was the fact that I'd have to look at the imperfections for as long as I had the sofa. The rep agreed to try again with Lee. I got a phone call back the same day saying she'd talked to the Crate and Barrel regional manager and they'd decided to give me a redo on the sofa too! They didn't want me to be dissatisfied and since the local people agree the sofa doesn't look as good as it should, Crate and Barrel will take it up with Lee again. Obviously, I am extremely happy about this resolution. I should add that it all happened in a most timely way and that the Crate and Barrel people were very responsive. They really seemed to care about my satisfaction as a customer. In this case, I'm very glad to have had Crate and Barrel as a middleman between me and the manufacturer. I'm really impressed with their customer service and I hope Lee comes through with a better product next time.

Yes, for sure it can work. A queen size bed is going to be tight but you should still have room for a few things other than the bed, depending on the floor plan and window and door openings. I have a guest bedroom approximately that size. In order for the door to swing we didn't have room for bedside tables on either side of the bed. Instead we mounted a floating display shelf that is the 60" wide (same width as queen bed) and clamped lights to it. That way if someone wants to lay in bed or sit up and read, there is light for them to do so. Also small pieces like watches or jewelry, cell phones can sit on the shelf. Another thing to consider is an outlet where phones etc can be plugged in to charge. Even if it means running a power bar out from behind the bed, it is very nice when you are travelling to be able to plug in and still have your phone nearby if you use it as an alarm clock as well. If you have room some wall hooks, that is also nice, people can hang their clothes since the den may not have a closet. These hooks from Ikea are perfect. They fold up flat to the wall when not in use and are unobtrusive. Then when you need it, fold it down and it is deep enough that a few things can hang on it, or even a couple of hangers could go on the same hook. Put 3 or 4 in a row spaced evenly and they are great.
