Cabinet maker's paint (lacquer) job on custom kitchen cabinets???
Comments (3)Your requests are not unreasonable. In my mind, industry standard is that you should get a full coat of paint (no missed spots and complete coverage with a good film build) and the surfaces should be smooth. You are right about the environment in which the cabinets were sprayed. Some guys go to great lengths to create a dust free area in which to spray and others are cabinet makers first, painters second. With lacquer because it dries so fast, you really have to spray an item and move it out of the area. If overspray hits a door that is already dry, then that door will be rough....See Moresloppy Marcite renovation.....What to do?
Comments (1)I don't think your guy knows what he's doing. Plastering a pool is a one day or less job for a crew of skilled men. A good crew will prepare the site so they don't track plaster on the decks. Sorry....See MoreGrout in Veins of Granite: Normal or Sloppy Job?
Comments (34)"If you sound crazy, his potential customers will feel sorry for him, not you." I doubt it. A sloppy contractor is enough to drive anyone crazy." jellytoast: Don't ever doubt it. I've shown up for jobs and had customers say "I read your reviews. What's with the lady with the caulk?" I just shrug my shoulders, roll my eyes, and get to work without saying a word. Customers are much more sophisticated than many contractors give them credit for being. They worry to death about a poor review and shouldn't. I wouldn't remove a single poor review I have; they are pure gold as far as credibility. The customers I want have a fully operational kook detector....See Moresloppy paint job on risers-need help!
Comments (12)If there is paint on the oak and the oak is not being painted, that's sloppy. Yes, it looks like he used tape and the paint got underneath the tape. Usually when this happens it is because the person doing the taping used his thumb to press the tape down and since the human thumb is round, it cannot reach the back edge of the tape which is the only area that really needs to be pressed down well since that is where the paint is being pushed into the taped surface. I usually use a thin bladed flexible putty knife to seal the tape at the back edge. Sometimes some paint still sneaks behind the tape, but it should be minimal. Any paint that does sneak behind should be removed after pulling the tape before asking the customer to be paid. At least that's how I would do it....See MoreUser
