The first two weeks of March here are supposed to be 20 degrees below normal. There is a new shingles vaccine, but every pharmacy here is out of it.

Ditto here, Mantis. I grow hostas in pots here. There have been years when they came out of my shed in March because the weather was sooo nice. Not happening this year. It’s been a really weird winter.

Wow, a lot going on Kay. I missed you, but had no idea. So glad the baby is ok. Hope your shingles passes quickly, I have heard it is very painful. DH had asked his dr about a shingles shot, but doc said he had not seen anyone under 65 get shingles, and recommended he wait. I have known several people under 65 get shingles, I don't think it is so rare though. DH went ahead and got a shot last year, and I am thinking about it. And now I hear measles cases are on the rise, I have not had measles.

Hasn't the weather been crazy. Just wet here, thankfully. If we get 1/4" of rain this month, it will be the wettest on record. I gather Tennessee already set a record. Lovely day today though, I was outside doing a little cleanup today. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, but then, surprise, more rain and cold. Yuk. Yes, I am whining, even though I know others have had it worse. But so far, I don't think I have lost any daylilies.

Nancy, obviously that doctor has not seen shingles very often!! I know of several people in their 40’s and 50’s who have had severe cases of shingles. I certainly got my shot!!

i have lost a couple of new lilies-due to rain, I think. We had 16 inches of rain over a week and a half-roads flooded, bridges out, and a small part of my lower garden under water. We had such a wet January and then February that I know they just rotted. Just part of gardening-however, the old ones you have tons of never succumb!!

Good heavens' get a measles shot, Nancy....You will not feel at that good for a couple days but the measles are much worse and longer. I agree, shingles can indeed come much younger although they are noted for hitting the elderly. MY doc said the immune depressants caused mine. I did discover (from a young woman in England (may have been 30 but not much older) and had a face broken out just like mine on the same nerve, that a simple salve is greatly helpful in reducing pain. Amazon sells it (of course) and it is Lemon balm salve. Works on Chicken pox, shingles, cold sores and insect bites. Lemon balm, peppermint (slight amount .no smell or feel) tee tree oil, shea butter and lemon balm oil. Baby is doing well, DIL is struggling.

And the stinking cold air is coming here too. Got to put my mini greenhouses on a few plants.

So good to see you posting again Kay ! I am keeping you all in my thoughts ....and praying for a quick recovery for your DIL . Sounds like you have made it through such an overwhelming time . I am sure it is your positivity that helped your family come through it all. Hope your shingles are winding down and you can hold that new grandbaby in the very near future.

I don't think this winter has been normal for any of us no matter where we are located ...let's all collectively think spring. Maybe we can influence the universe to give it to us after treating us all so badly this winter .

Kay, hope things get back to normal ore quickly for everything ASAP. Btw, I worked for a pediatrician for a long time, we had teenagers come in the office with shingles several times over the years, it’s tuff for teens.

Kay: I'm glad things have calmed down enough that you can write. How long do you think your shingles will last?.......I got the Shingles shot after I had a blood test to confirm I had had Chickenpox as a child. Thanks you Holly. Lets all think Spring...Can't hurt, can it? Shingles are tough for everyone. Sherry, I will agree. I had so much pain for 10 days (not typical) that I had resigned myself to having trigeminal neuropathy and am actually relieved it is shingles since they should eventually clear up. Maryl, I was lucky to see the doctor an start on Famcyclovir the day I broke out and am hoping it will clear up faster. I will see eye doctor today since it appears to be in my eye. (Can't so the simple thing anytime it seems). Life is always a ride...not always good or bad but problems are just part of it. I hope you are are doing well and the weather will finally clear up and let us have spring.

Good Grief Kay. Your eye?! I've never heard of shingles in the eyes. Bless your heart. You will be in my prayers tonight...Thank goodness we all have spring to look forward to - IF it will ever get here. The high Sunday is predicted to be in the mid 20's - the HIGH! Kay, Hope you and your husband health is improving. Good to know your DiL and new baby are doing okay. You've certainly had a lot to deal with.

Julia, it seems as if I get one thing under control and another one starts...but, I didn't get this old for nothing and eventually this shingle pain will leave; if I keep busy it helps. And his back was improved with the surgery he had.

Happy note, both of my plants from you are looking really good right now. The teo hard frosts were a shock to a lot of the plants, but others were unaffectede. Go figure.
