Thermador or SZ 48" side by side
Comments (13)I just purchased 30" fridge freezer thermador columns (oh and a 24" wine column too :)). Not installed yet, but my research and shopping showed me this.... The new GE monogram fridge/freezer column, the thermador columns, the Miele columns and the Gaggenau columns all come from the Turkey plant. Each company does something a little different afterwards. Miele does more with electronics, and nicer lights, Monogram made the drawers below different (and less efficient in my mind), Gaggenau treats everything in Stainless steel. I liked the Thermador best for the value versus quality side. I tip my hat to the Turkish factory for designing/building a quality unit at the core. As such, I would suspect all of these units share the same compressor, insulation, hinges (I can verify the hinges at least). Clearly these brands all do other models (OK, maybe not Miele) from other factories as well. Most of these brands started with an appliance, got a reputation, and then found ways to stick their name on other appliances which helps with marketing, and design style to an extent. Its no surprise that Whirlpool makes most of the US fridges, doesn't mean that you are getting deceived if its really labelled kitchen aide.......See More48' side by side fridge-Viking, GE monogram?
Comments (7)"Perhaps you are used to a smaller deli drawer in a freestanding fridge and having a hard time seeing how it will work to have something different?" lascatx-yes-guilty as charged ;) I guess I don't need them exactly eye level, but so many just seemed to have only the drawers at the very bottom and I'm trying to get away from stuff rotting out of sight/out of mind in the bottom of the fridge! If I'm remembering right, reasons I ruled out the Thermador were: 1) It didn't have the higher deli drawers 2) the curved, contemporary Thermador logo panel on the exterior and 3) I didn't find them to be quite as well lit inside as the Viking and the Monogram. Honestly, if I could get the Theramador without their curvy logo but with something more "commercial" looking like the open grille look of the Viking/Monogram, I might consider them. I have read good things about their fridges, so thanks for encouraging me to take a second look. maks 2000-That is interesting. I was quite shocked at the high price tag of the Monogram fridge. I still think of "GE" as more budget friendly because it doesn't enjoy the cachet of the higher end brands, but it cost almost as much as the Viking. Thank you both for posting! Comments (11)Unless you get a larger side by side (42"+) which means built in and a lot more money, a side by side is big on cubic space, but it isn't great on shelf space. Shelf space is more important than cubic space. Plenty of folks have switched from a top freezer model to a side by side and complained that their old 22 cu.ft. model held more than their new 25 cu.ft. one. They are partially right. A top freezer model has 85% of the volume as a side by side, but the continuous shelf space is much better in a top freezer. French doors have the whole width of the cavity available for storage of odd sized objects like party platters, pizza boxes, and full sheet cakes. They have more continuous shelf space, which translates into more actual storage. The bottom freezer drawer pulls to you, and is far more ergonomic than getting on your hands and knees to find the last pack of frozen peas way back at the bottom, or the already liquified salad greens down in the bottom of the refrigerator bin. The large drawer has a separator(s) to help keep items organized, and you have another drawer and door bins as well. You end up being better organized than you will with a side by side, and you're able to hold more items as well.French doors actually have better door clearance because you are dealing with 2 equal size doors rather than one large and one small....See MoreSide by Side Stainless Steel Fridge
Comments (7)Hi--my Samsung side by side (26 cuft) arrived today. It was the best looking of the bunch in my opinion, but also gets great reviews from consumers...and its design sets itself apart from many of the other choices in the field you're looking at. It replaced a 15 yo kenmore side by side ...Like you, I much prefer the side by side style. Lowes, Sears and many others just started carrying more Samsung models these last few months. Oh, and the price was very competetive....See Moremichoumonster
