Great questions. I didn't read it as snarky at all. The reason I want to paint the LR is because I've lived here ten years and we have never painted this room. It's not the same boardwalk color as the lower half of the dining room. It's much lighter, kind of a beige-y, pinky color. It doesn't match the hallway or the dining room. I was hesitant to paint it all boardwalk because my furniture is all brown-ish and I didn't want the living room to feel all brown like a mudhut lol. My sofa is butterscotch, then both chairs are chocolate. The recliner has squares of the moody blue in it. The leaf chair has butterscotch and I guess ivory. The throw pillows on the sofa are ivory, a light blue, butterscotch, and a gold. My original thought was to paint the whole thing moody blue to add so life and interest to the room, but my fear is the color will be overwhelming. My other choice is the boardwalk. It is in the adjoining hall and the dining room, but I was also thinking of painting my new kitchen that color. Is that too much of a good thing??? I had not considered any golden colors. I will pick up some swatches the next time I am a SW or Lowes. Thanks again.

I love all those ideas! I'm still tweaking what we have. I'm not using these calendars effectively right now but I think it will just take practice. It's still all so new to me. We will doing more work on our house, including adding built-in desks in our school/office space. I will have white boards for each child since we homeschool, as well as cork boards for each child in his/her own desk space. For the family calendar, we will most likely end up using iCal on the family iMac, but I still like this idea. I have the current month and the subsequent 2 months, plus a weekly to-do board. These all have magnets on the back. The current one and the weekly one go on the shelf; the other two are below the shelf on metal strips attached to the wall. The silver board is actually magnetic and push pin. The metal outer layer has pin-sized holes all over it, and underneath is a material that accepts pins. I love it. I know, you didn't ask about other parts of the room. The photos showing blue paint are nice, but I'd photoshop various transitional rugs. Seems a foundation would be better than wall changes. Soft blue imo is a tad delicate with much white. What about a soft teal, or green?

Some still use them. I have one in my living room. I wouldnt worry about whether they are out or not, if you like them, then paint one.
