I used to decorate cakes!! Got lots of odd requests. Never to mix vintage with newborn tho. So kind of divide the cake into vintage with the old luggage, old cars, old trains to represent the past. & lower 1/2 (make the Left side all that going towards right upper corner so maybe small image of old train will be going off somewhere. then on a diagonal write Baby zooming into the future & under the writing have ipod, computer, hiphop or whatever you can draw or copy off & cover with clear contact plastic to represent baby's new world. Could make old postcard looking rectangles with Paris, Rome, Greece etc, or places in U.S. or old looking car with luggage in back seat & names on side of car Boston, N.Y. L.A. anyway that is only way I can think of to tie it together. Depends on size of cake too. Also your decorating ability, if you aren't good with cars you might see if you can find vintage looking matchbox car or old train or make postage stamps with names of towns in the contact clear plastic, cover both sides & just put 2c(cents) or 3 c to seem like from long ago. Might find small horse & buggy at a decorating shop to represent old days & use ads to get pics of stuff on sale like ipods, cell phones, computers or draw them yourself, if baby is here a computer screen with baby's name, birth weight would be cute in lower half. My favorites were Business Law (thought I wanted to be a lawyer at one time)and Business Mgmt. Even liked Accounting. Typing was what I use most now! I was in FBLA Future Business Leaders of America. Sociology was also interesting, but most people took it for an easy A. I got good grades all through high school, but I hated math Alegbra 2/Trig and sciences classes! I remember Psychology was offered my senior year and now I wish I had taken it as I loved it in college! My mom made me take Latin! I protested, since I already finished 3 years of Spanish, but now I understand why she wanted me to learn. Taking Latin first would have helped immensely with Spanish! I can't say I loved it, but it came in handy around SAT time! And it is the root of so many words (Legal/Medical fields) My 2nd year Latin Teacher was wonderful!! She was the kind that if you didn't do your homework, you felt like she was personally offeneded! And you definitely did not want to hurt her feelings! She cared about the kids doing well. She had cancer before she was my teacher, and it went into remission. I heard recently that it came back and she passed away-how sad!! The school lost an awesome lady that day! She was so loving and brave! There weren't many teachers that I felt cared so much about their kids! My Spanish teacher was a hysterical little man! He was quite short, so literally little. He was strict, made us recite oral presentations in front of the class (all in Spanish of course), so woe be to you if you weren't prepared, but he used to make up funny stories about living in a cave in Spain with his pirahnas. I think he did them to see if we were paying attention lol! And to this day I'll always remember how to say-Take out your homework and Do you have gum in your mouth?? Very useful, no? lol

You Can't do It Yourself, Stupid. I have a chapter for today called - don't try to replace the cartridge in the shower. I decided I need a tool to remove it. I put it back together only to find no water will come out. Apparently I jammed the cartridge. So we have no shower and can't take a bath because an element is burned out in the water heater and like the shower cartridge - the element is "cemented" in. Hubby is supposed to get to that tomorrow. How much you wanna bet we have no hot water or shower until a plumber comes?

Neither I nor anyone else suggested that, Glenda. In fact, I was careful to say I didn't want to criticize. With that in mind, Suzieque's post was well said. I don't recall seeing the "Pet Peeves" thread, but I'll hazard a guess that some of the things that annoy some people are not a source of annoyance to others. And, as Suzieque said, most annoyances are not big things. But of course that doesn't stop them from being annoying . . . to some. I guarantee that those of us who do find those teaser subject lines annoying (just annoying, mind you--we're not tearing out our hair or spiking our blood pressure or making demands) have plenty of small stuff that we don't sweat. And I'm pretty certain that those who claim to have learned not to react to little things have something (some small thing) they find irritating as hell.
