My rant about pet/house sitting

I mentioned before how easy my neighbor makes it to watch her cats and house. Plus there is usually a homemade bread as a thank you. Not needed, but appreciated. I also mentioned the pet sitting for my brother and sister in law. For the last 10 years it has just been 4 cats (more before). They usually take the dog. There is also a pool and lots of plants. Last Summer I have had enough of them treating me like a door mat. As in they sent me a text or email to watch for a week while they were already driving to their destination. Having no extra bowls awailable so I could soak one set in the sink. Cats pooping on the floor and the only thing available were these “silver rags” to clean it up. The rest of the year was better with the notifying me a week in advance, having some paper towels and cleaner and clear instructions on medications. This time around they will be leaving on Friday and I was told I just have to do the mornings, my mother in law will do the nights. My husband just came home and said his mother will be in NC until Sunday night. Was somebody going to tell me I have to do these two nights? One of the cats had the tail amputated and is going to get the stitches out tomorrow. One of them lost probably half her weight in the last year. That one is 15 years old. For two vacations I had to give her thyroid medication. But suddenly not anymore? Another one had a huge open wound for almost a year. She needed anti fungal, antibiotics and pain meds twice a day. There is still an open wound, it just has shifted. I never had a problem flipping my cats over and give them medicine but this cat is skittish around me and I don’t want to rub on that wound. i have pictures (took them to compare last time while they were gone to make sure it’s not looking worse and I would have to take her to the doctor), but I don’t want to gross you out. Anyway, this is just really a rant. With all the long weekends, I took care of their stuff for a bit over 5 weeks last year. I may or may not get a thank you by text or email after. I know it’s family, but since this is always so one sided at least make it easy for me by giving clear instructions and enough supplies. Never got back any of my bowls. The one set of cats (they need to be kept divided inside the house) always ran out of water with the little bowl they had for example. So I took one of my bigger dog bowls there.
