My very own set of ironed turtles
Comments (23)I realize I'm coming close to doing a bit of resurrecting here, but I've been obsessing about why Hoya elliptica cuttings are so fussy for a while now and I wanted to post an update. Thanks to the benevolence of a super super super kind friend, I received some 'local' elliptica cuttings (e.g. from within the US), and look at the amazing difference between these cuttings and ones I've received from abroad, even though the travel time wasn't significantly less. I can't remember exactly how long that Liddle order took to get here, off the top of my head, but it was shockingly fast. Either one or two days longer makes a huge difference to these cuttings or they don't like leaving the continent where they were born and bred. Or maybe they just don't like to fly? /ponder Anyway, ignore the fact that I keep linking to my blog because I swear it is sheer laziness not the promotion of something that is still in its embarrassing stages. But, if you want to actually hear me discuss this at length (for some odd reason), my remarks are here....See MoreIs Baby Turtle ssssoooooo 2009?
Comments (36)Thank you ttodd for your pics; your room is beautiful. Your pictures convinced me that I could add blue to a BT turtle room. I love the hydrangas in your room! I think I have decided what I will do for now, anyway. I have 2 weeks to change my mind! I decided that I just didn't like baby turtle in my light about 1/2 the time. It was beautiful a lot of the time, but other times it was kinda of murky. I also think the dry sage is too dark for my family room as I am trying to keep a light and airy feel to it. For the living room I will paint the window wall and one sofa wall Gray Mirage, which is the lighter version of dry sage. It is not an exact match, but the curtains work well with it. It looks nice over the sofa too. My kitchen (which flows into the FM visually and has dark cherry cabinets) I will paint dry sage. That room can handle a darker color and the dry sage will look lovely near the dark cherry cabinets. The little back entry mudroom behind the kitchen (it is located on the other side of the kitchen from the Family room) I will likely paint Gray mirage or perhaps November rain (one shade lighter than gray mirage). I am looking for a complementary color for the dry sage, but I think gray mirage will look pretty and it will make the space flow better. I still have barely beige in the family room and a bright yellow sunroom - all open. So, I think I need some gentle flow to contrast the bright yellow and the sage. I like the gray mirage/dry sage combo whether I decide to keep the curtains or not. I think it will compliment the sofa/ottoman/rug regardless of whether I keep or change the curtains. That takes some of the pressure off. Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate your veiws and comments on this journey. I ordered the side tables today and the painters come in 2 weeks. I am still trying to figure out how to get some blue in the room ( the dinning room is a gray blue and the library is gray as well). I did consider painting the kitchen Beach Glass (which BM says is a nice combo with gray mirage), but I didn't think I would love a blue kitchen for years, but a green one I could. I'll have to get the blue/gray in with some accents or art! Thank you again- any comment are welcome and appreciated!...See MoreColors to coordinate with BM Baby Turtle?
Comments (5)I LOVE my Baby Turtle too, in my kitchen and piano room. Within view of it I have a BM Sulpher (Sulfer?) Yellow livingroom at 75%, and Palladian Blue ceilings, and a wall of floor to ceiling cabinets in Copley green which looks exactly like when I mixed half Baby Turtle and Half Palladian. So, while I really like it with cool colors ((My in-progress backsplash mosaic features the very same color tile with lots of other greens and turquoises, and I'm re-upholstering a 1950's loveseat in turquoise duck)) - BT also looks good with reds, so the hallway WAY across the room (going into DH's doorless office) is BM Cognac Snifter, which is a rich terra cotta. The 75% Sulphur Yellow works well with the Baby Turtle in my light. Sometimes they look very similar. They change in a passageway, so I can take a pic of them side by side if you like....See MoreWeek Seven on White Dove Remodel
Comments (3)Thanks for the comment, Steph. The front is so typical of a 1950s era home that was not intended to be "modern" just strong and durable. The home was built for the contractor's mama. He also put a gate in the back fence so she could visit with her friend on the street behind. And, when we took out that fence, we put another one in the new lot line fence because that same neighbor sold the strip of land which I now call my garden. She is the best neighbor I've ever had in my entire adult life. Sweet woman, great gardener....See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
