Windows Remodeling Design Dilemma

Where to source black-framed windows & doors??

II'm in the Chicago area (northwest suburbs), and I've long been in love with the thin black framed windows and doors I see on designers' websites. Now that I'm in a position to renovate my entire home, I must know where I can find these lovely types of windows and doors. I know that Home Depot has has finally started offering steel doors (or at least ones that look like steel) -- for bath showers.

Where else should I be looking? Is black not popular enough to be found in the big stores, and thus would I need to find someone who does custom work? Here are examples of what I'm inspired by:

What you are looking at there is steel and is, as described above, expensive. Not sure that it is a great fit for the climate of Chicago either.

A nice option might be the Marvin Modern line.

instead of the black, have you thought about bronze? and instead of beige, why not do a dark charcoal or black trim? I think if you got your black window it would tend to tie it together better than beige and the one odd black window. ya know? I have a similar style home. I did a black french casement window for my kitchen window that looks right out the front porch. there is only one other white window on the front of the house. this is a horrible picture because it was right after painting and nothing was cleaned up, but it gives you an idea. the trim is Wrought Iron. you can just see the black window in the background

Can you post a picture of the back of your house? What about white windows? Maybe paint the portico posts and porch railings white as well? The first image is similar. That might allow you to use the black door if you really like the look of a black door. Not sure how it would look with keeping the soffit color the same, but just throwing out ideas! The second image is a house with similar colors as yours, with a black door, which looks nice too. Granted, both houses have shutters and your home is not conducive to adding shutters.

thank you for the responses. i know every house is different, but i just wanted to know if there was a general trend or rule against it. i think it would look good in my house. i will have the paint done first and then try out. couple of pictures. . paint color will be changed to cloud white. Already got done in dining and liking it.

They are beautiful and I love them. But be careful with black framed windows. On a typical suburban home they will look wrong. What is the style of your house?

In the beautiful photos that we see online all black windows are uncovered. That looks the best.

Thanks all! There are many Chicago suburban homes with black windows, and it looks beautiful. Not sure about the climate, but as we are seeing them pop up more and more, I'm assuming builders have come up with the proper insulation for these windows. Yes, I would keep them uncovered, though I've seen them with white curtains and that looks amazing as well. Thanks again for all the intel. Appreciate it!

What you are looking at that are installed in a residential capacity are 99% not likely to be steel. They are going to be vinyl, wood, composite, or fiberglass.

Check out Weather Shield. Not sure they will be really thin. As mentioned the steel windows doesn't work in ChiTown
