Which rampant self-sowers have to learned to love?
Comments (33)@Waplummer - I'm so envious! I've been meaning to buy sanguinaria and cimicifuga for my garden (rather shady) but even 5" pots are quite pricey. Now that I've heard that they may spread, maybe I'll give in and buy one of each. My garden is relatively new, but I put down a columbine last year, and it somehow succumbed to rot or something and died...I was pretty upset cause it was a great color. Actually just today, I noticed tons of little seedlings around the area where the mother plant was!! I'm excited to see what color combinations I may get! I'm surprised no one has mentioned convallaria, although I suppose it's not really a self-sower. My neighbor has beds planted right next to the fence and I've started discovering that her lily of the valley are spreading under the fence into my yard! I suppose that means that I can dig em up and plant them where I want to! I love getting free plants! :D...See MoreNew to raising worms, loving the learning process
Comments (21)With no intent to be a 'smart-ass'; "What would you do if someone said it wasn't "normal"? My point is this: You're going to get lots of "advice" on the internet. Many people that give that advice will be SERIOUSLY offended if you don't do EXACTLY what they say to get to their concept of "normal". From my perspective, the most salient part of your post - with respect to your "normal" question - is: "the red wigglers still seems to be healthy". Again from my perspective, there is very little "normal" in worming in plastic containers. Therefore, if "bad" ain't happenin', 'relax, and go with the flow'. On the other hand, if you feel the need to "do something", then DO IT, and see what happens. If the result is "good", good. If the result is bad, don't do that again. My bins look like "hell" compared to what many "experts" call "right" (TONS of "pot worms" and springtails). Still, the E. fetida (red wigglers) are doing "fine". Comments (22)The idea for the shallow pool was to be a place to sit on a beach chair and read a book. Because of the slope on that side of the house it would have required much higher retaining walls to have the main pool in that location. The aesthetic goal was to be able to see water upon entering the home. Since we also wanted the sound of the waterfall this is the solution our landscape architect came up with. We didn't want a hot tub. The main pool is 3.5 feet deep on either side and 5.5 feet in the middle. We didn't want a deep end since in our previous home everyone always congregated around the shallow end....See MoreCan I learn to love laminate
Comments (37)We are getting close to finishing our kitchen, and we put down....laminate! I got the Formica Basalt Slate in a honed finish, and I L-O-V-E it. It has the look of soapstone, but at a price I can live with! I always figure that i can always upgrade later, but for now, I LOOOOOVE my countertops! You can see the white edging on the beveled edge that I have since filled in with a sharpie. Can't even tell! (ignore the mess, barstools, construction debris, etc)...See MoreBri Bosh
