Arranging furniture in a small bedroom?

Please excuse the clutter and the toddler and dog. We just moved in. I'm having trouble arranging our master bedroom. This seems to be the only way to fit all the furniture in here. My main issue is the way the bed sits in front of our window. The closet is a big folding door so it needs space to open. I want to do away with the bulky night stand. I was considering Ikea Lack shelves as nightstands. Maybe even the tall multiple shelf one in the corner. I also considered a curtain wall, but we don't want to cover this view. And that wouldn't work with floating shelves. I also want side lamps but the only solution might be something hanging from the ceiling? My dad suggested that I should have the bed where the tv and dresser are and hang the tv in the opposite corner. But then the long dresser would have to go awkwardly against the wall at the end of the bed (if it would even fit).

Yes please and make sure you mark each window and door and of course all to scale. You will find using graph paper makes this easier.

I lived in an apt. for three years where the only wall space big enough for the bed in the small bedroom was in front of the window because the other wall was all closet. It worked out OK. The only problem was once a week I could hear a loud noise of my neighbor emptying his recycling into the bin the night before pickup. The bedroom was on the ground floor right next to our shared driveway. I had good light blocking shades.

You are welcome. Most of the time, I do place the bed in the back of the room , facing the door. Normally the bed is the largest visual piece in the room. In this case, the bed is rather short and the other pieces dominate it. So, it feels better with these larger pieces on the far wall. The bed is still in a good spot.

In the first picture you can put a desk across the end of the bed, and in the last picture you can put a desk between the doors. Mirrors above dressers - are they really needed? What could be there that uses that space better? Personally, I just need one full length mirror. Take advantage of your vertical space. Some experts say no tv or reading in the bedroom.

sometimes a lot of furniture just won't fit.

so, try a bed with storage underneath or a simple platform bed that will fit better under a window. try doing a tall dresser w/extra drawers. for seasonal clothes, find a cedar chest or try another room. purge and organize.

I mean, the furniture fits. I'm just unsure about the placement. Does it look bad?

no. I don't think it looks bad. hard to tell from your fragmented photos though. the bed that's off center from the window would drive me crazy. have you tried it elsewhere?

I would try the bed where the TV is like your Dad suggested. Only issue is I don't see which other wall space you have to mount the TV. You mentioned there would be another spot for it...can you provide that picture? A few more pictures would help everyone understand the floor plan and then we can better help you with ideas for arranging the furniture.

I'll try to get some more pics tonight. The spot to mount the tv if we moved the bed to the opposite wall would be the corner next to the big window.

First pic is looking into the room from the door. Turn to the right and the first wall is TV and dresser and a smaller window. Turn to the left is the bed and bigger window. Turn left again and you see closet and then the tall dresser.

I measured and the bed would fit where the tv and long dresser are, with 10 inches of clearance between the bed and open door (if the bed is pushed all the way against the window). The long dresser would then fit long ways against the remaining wall space between the foot of the bed and the big window. But I can't decide if that would look bad.

I rearranged the only other way I could fit things. My only dilemma is how do we solve the nightstand issue. There's about 1 foot of space between the bed and open door. I'd need some kind of floating option on the other side.

That's a lot of drawer space with the two dressers. Do you need it all?

We need the space because it's a master bedroom and the closet is kind of small (our last house had a walk in so that took some adjusting). I think happy with this configuration. I'll show the final result once I get my "side tables" up. They are 6 inch display shelves from IKEA so just small enough to fit one on each side, but should hold our phone chargers and a drink.
