Perhaps consider re-posting the photos here ... But first -- you may want to wait until you move into the new place and see how the room really feels and works for you ... but the black blinds may work with your color scheme for the present ... and -- of course -- every room is so very different when you add lots of lamps and lighting options ... Plus ... do you have artworks with your colors? Or perhaps an area rug? Sometimes it is easier to find those kinds of items first -- and then match the tones to your walls ... Just some thoughts .... hope you don't mind! :)

pretty much disregard its assymetry. or even embrace it. I'd have fun with it, like leaning bigger vertical art where the height allows, and a smaller one next to it, to the left, maybe even interlapping a bit. You can put taller plant there too,,,does it get enough sunlight? Some plants would do great everywhere, so even if it doesn't you'll have some choices, if the width of the mantel is enough you can even put a couple books on it. In the part that's lower. An interesting candle(I have candles everywhere in case the power goes out. lol). Something you collect, grouped together. doesn't have to be many pieces. Just a few you love. It's a nice fireplace.

Your ceilings are not really that high, don't worry about decorating all of the tall wall. I read here once that if you decorate nicely at the people level, your tall ceiling will make your space look nice and airy, not bare. I would do one or two big items like Olychick posted, there is not need to decorate the whole wall. Add some texture, color and height variation to your side table and coffee table and it will help anchor your "people" space.

Hello Jason Anderson , Great space you have there - very cool! One approach would be to take it's, 'weakness,' (stair location) & turn it into a strength, so let's start there. It seems you have a little built-in underneath going on. Make that little thing a big statement by building it out to create a little mini-bar with integrated wine cooler, some concealed storage and using the depth to make one of those, 'disappearing backsplashes,' that are all the rage. Or create some type of bench. Either way use the natural nook to create a more intimate space for function or private conversation. The big wall with the windows on the left and the door in the middle looks a little unbalanced. You could balance it out and create some drama with a large format painting to the right of the door, over a table or small bookcase and conceal a light behind the exposed beam. Add one or two chairs facing into the space with a coffee table. From there you would put the t.v. / media cabinet to the left of the window wall, a couch facing the window with a console table behind to keep it clean into what looks like a kitchen & you've got the big moves covered.
