My home needs serious curb appeal!
Comments (4)Erykah- I'm definitely no expert when it comes to landscaping, but here are a few suggestions. Nerium oleander- lots of varieties with blooms in various shades of pink, red, white, etc. Some type of small-ish palm tree, such as Chamaerops humilis (Mediterranean Fan Palm) or Trachycarpus fortunei (Windmill Palm). Many agaves have beautiful bluish coloration, such as Agave americana, Agave colorata or Agave parryi v. truncata. You may also want to check out Yucca Do Nursery (Texas) and High Country Gardens (Santa Fe) for more ideas. Good luck! cd...See MoreMost Boring Brick Ranch. Needs curb appeal! It feels hopeless!
Comments (29)Suezbell Thank you. very good suggestions. I will definitely add another walkway -that makes sense and I never thought of that. It could easily be done with flagstone or something. Another struggle is between the house and the existing sidewalk it is such a small area. It may be too small for anything other than flowers so having a multilayer of landscaping would allow me to still put in some boxwoods or something still. I'm trying to picture the porch in front as you mentioned. It's not a bad idea. We actually have a large shared pond in back with most of our acreage being in front and side (like a piece of pie shape). We have 5 little children so we keep the play set and trampoline in front of the house, volleyball net on the side... Not ideal but keeps them safe away from the water. We have a beautiful view in the back yard with large windows and a nice screened in back porch. Just need to bring some beauty to the front of the house. Great ideas. Thank you heres is a pic of the house from the end of our driveway....See MoreHelp needed to improve curb appeal for my new house!
Comments (14)I love your house. I imagine it is quite old since it built so close to the road. I like the shutters on either side of the door, but would get larger lanterns. I would remove all the foundation plantings along that front side of the house so you can have a nice wide walkway. Then I would add steps to the right side of the entry so you can walk straight to the mailbox. Instead of the iron railing I would do a Chippendale wood one. This company fabricates them. Here is a modified one with square spindles. I can see your house with color. Comments (9)Kelli, this is my amateur opinion and drawing. The roof, the siding and the fascia/rain gutter are all about the same color. The fascia would be better in white. I used black because I couldn't make the white work. The tree near the street is ready to be trimmed up. I think the bed in front looks shallow and the shrubs seem planted too close to the house. I would deepen that bed. I do not care for the extended part of the bed because it blocks the view of the entrance. I would reuse those plants and rework the entrance a bit. I might plant a large shrub in front of the second part of the driveway. People should notice the house more than the driveway and this would hide a bit of it. It is a very attractive house and I would love a three car garage....See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
