32 Outside and 80 inside greenhouse with no heat!
Comments (16)Terryster-thank you for your post. I feel like an idiot for asking dumb questions. However you all have been so nice and helpful. I too am growing for a living so I guess that's why I have been nervous. My plants are looking really good right now. So I'm feeling pretty positive about it all. I was worried about spreading fungus and growing disease. However the humidity has been low during the days now. My greenhouse is 16x36. My exhaust fan is about 48" and the same with the vent. It's a rainbow gutter connect greenhouse. I'm only using half of it for the greenhouse and the other 16x36 for a shade house. I have two good sized(not sure of size)fans mounted up high for circulating. We bought everything except the heaters used. So all the fans were less than 200 dollars. I think I was too dumb not to realize how fast it would warm up in the winter. I guess because the first few days I was struggling to get the temps past 50. However,it was only 8 outside then. So when I didn't have to use the heaters I was like wow! lol I have roses, clematis and several other perennials in large pots on benches. Then I have one long bench with my trials on starting seeds(hoping I can do fine, but ordered plants so I would know I have some to sell if not). The other day my soil temp were 89 was when the temp rose over 100. Now I see what your saying, because when it's 80 inside the soil temps are about 50-60 now. I now have the exhaust hooked up to kick on with the thermostat. It has made a big difference....See MoreWhich CPs to transfer inside/outside?
Comments (8)D. aliciae does better on the tray method when you water over them. It flushes the pots and removes mineral salts. Aside from this stomach virus thing, the Met regulars are slowly returning to the lineup. The really do have an excellent team... except for the fielding. Oh... and can somebody get me some real pizza?!...See MoreMoving plants inside and outside
Comments (4)I, too, keep mine out for as long as possible, although I don't live somewhere as cold as Mike's region. With the solar values decreasing this time of year, I don't worry as much about burning or shocking the leaves of the plant. I think one important tip to remember is this: if the roots are cold, don't put the plant out into strong, warm sunlight immediately. With smaller plants in smaller pots, I pull the plants indoors at night to keep the root-temp higher, then I put the plants outdoors in the morning when the sun rises. I also use slightly warm water to raise the temperature of the roots after chilly nights followed by sunny Autumn days. Josh...See MoreWhen to start spring vegetable inside?
Comments (6)Table 1 on this page http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/hil/ag-06.html gives you a good guide. N Carolina ranges from zone 6 in parts of the mountain, to 8 along the coast. I live on the line between zone 7 and 8 and I started my cabbage and broccoli plants two weeks ago, and my spinach plants last week. I also start some pea plants indoors for transplanting next week. I keep the peas covered with row covers if a heavy frost is forecasted. I'll plant out my broccoli and cabbage in mid February to early March depending on weather and my schedule....See Moremurraysmom Zone 6a OH
