Who has kids and dogs and marble bathroom floors? xpost bathrooms
Comments (1)I Crema de marfil (sp) 12x12 tiles in my master bath. Love the looks of the floor when it was new and still do in some places. IMHO, with vanity chair, kids, dogs, cats, Make up, after shave, etc, it just did not hold up well at all in the heavy traffic areas. My daughter spilled nail polish remover and it ruined an area of the tile. The least expensive quote to repolish 80sf was $650. I'll retile with something more duable for that price than spend it on repolishing every so many years. It may work for some. It did not work for us. But it is pretty. Here are pics when it looked good...See MoreWe need help with our bathroom layout for a 4-headed family.
Comments (12)Hi Kate, thanks for your comment! I smiled a lot when reading your idea of encouragement to pee in the shower ;) We could hang a big sign there. But if it is not directly noticeable: we separated the guest-shower from the guest-toilet because we would like to have a window in there. We expect that guests will use the toilet more often than the shower. I tried "Sweet Home 3D" to visualize the ideas but that tool somehow shows a window very similar to a door. So I added another plan with more notes in it. In the new plan I changed the direction of doorway for guest-rooms and laundry; but we havn't consider pocket doors yet. Your questions: 1) It's meant to be a window :) 2) Yep! We can change plumbing, walls and size/position of laundry room. 3) Master Bedroom is located far away... on the left bottom corner. 4) Guest area will be 5m x 3m, but it has a "-100 cm level" (which needs a staircase). I hope this helps your inspiration....See MoreAre 3 small bathrooms or 2 large bathrooms better for resale value?
Comments (22)Dear Weedyacres: One bedroom is 13 x 25, the other is 12 x 18. The other bathroom which is not in the drawing serves two bedrooms and one of those bedrooms is really tiny. On the other side of it is the dining room, so no way to make that smaller. I guess the only possibility at this point would be to loose the tiniest bedroom and turn the current master bath into one with the spiral shower, but I don't like that idea at all because we mostly heat that part of the house with the fireplace and I wouldn't want to loose a bedroom in the main section. Plus I think that really might affect resale value. Probably best to leave as is. I am so thankful for everyone's input because I think it's helping me to see that the spiral shower is a no go. Actually, the house isn't the main feature for me. The main feature is the two acres and lots of woods and the sun room with wall to ceiling windows. And the room we will use for dancing which actually brings me to another problem. The house is on a slab and we want hardwood. Sounds like engineered is the only way to go. We keep this room about 50 degrees and we want something that won't hurt our feet like tile would do. Thanks again for your help. I really do appreciate it very much....See MoreFinal decisions on bathroom layout options: which is better?
Comments (20)It's not a small thing but if you are going to be redoing X and then maybe Y later, it may make sense to just bite the bullet. For disclosure though I have moved or slightly enlarged 5-6 doors in plaster or plaster and lathe walls, a couple of doors only a matter of inches, because those inches made a difference in the design. I wrote this at the same time you were writing your post, but you would not necessarily need to have new millwork milled, particularly if the millwork is the same inside the closet, you could mine that. (Of course I have done *that* too, had knives cut, and I didn't think that was such a big deal either.) Of the grandfathering of the door width, I do get that. (But of course with our local L and I inspection they would not be paying enough attention to realize a door was moved a foot or so because they actually don't have the time and manpower to pay that much attention, that is a function of my location....See More- 5 years ago
