Bad books and movies
Comments (45)I've gotten to the point of allowing myself to put down a book (and never pick it up again) if it just doesn't resonate with me fairly early on. There's not a set number of pages I'll read before making the call - I just kind of know it when I've reached the "not gonna work" point. I'll admit I feel slightly guilty when I stop reading a book, but am understanding (and trying to accept) the fact that it ain't all gonna gel. I can't think of a specific example right now, but I can say that I don't have a lot of patience for smarmy romance novels. I guess the same would hold true for rom-com, chick flicks as well. Most of them bore me senseless. (Katherine Heigl makes me want to run screaming from the room.) I prefer offbeat, quirky flicks. I adored Borat - can't remember laughing so hard at a movie in a long time, so maybe that says something about my crassness. ;-) The one movie I remember feeling physically ill while watching was Videodrome with James Woods. It came out in the early 80s and was one of the first movies I'd seen with gory special effects, and I just recall how it literally turned my stomach....See MoreWho saw it today? Comments (16)Since you asked.... I saw it two days after it was released. Mind you, I was looking at the credits at the end of "The Last Cruisade" in the theater in 1989 when I first thought "I sure hope this isn't the last one of these they make!" Nineteen years of wishing, waiting & hoping. Finally it was here. I made up my mind that "Raiders" and "Last Cruisade" set the bar so high in my mind that I was only hoping to reach the level of "Temple of Doom", the weakest of the first 3 in my opinion. Sadly, the first time I saw HF in this one I thought "OMG, he's so old!!!", not that I'm young myself. I'd need a liquid Bayer Aspirin IV drip if I thought I'd do a tenth of the stunts that Indy was going through. It was more like National Treasure than Indiana Jones, for those of you who saw that movie. NT was not a bad movie, but it wasn't IJ. You could almost say the same about "Crystal Skull"....See MoreSaw the movie ' Twilight ' today
Comments (2)My friend Jen TX and I went to see it yesterday and we thought it was good and followed the book very well and that it was entertaining. Hopefully they're working on New Moon already. Considering the size of the book and the length of a movie, they did a good job cramming all the necessary parts into it. And judging by the giggling girls in the theater, they were all enjoying it very, very much. It was showing in at least 4 different rooms at the small theater so I am guessing that turnout has been very high....See MoreShare your favorite book, song and movie
Comments (64)This is difficult to narrow down. Here goes: Book: "To Kill a Mockingbird". I read it at least once a year. Song: "Till There Was You" , Beatles. DH and I used to sing it to our babies. He would play it on the guitar and we would both sing. Maybe that's why they went to sleep so quickly-to escape our singing! Movie: Dr. Zhivago. On a snowy night DH and I went to see the movie and were only a handful of those who braved the storm to see it. It was in an old theater with the red velvet drapes around the screen. It was a very romantic, memorable date night! History behind Dr. Zhivago...See More- 5 years ago
