N daylilies 2019
The N daylilies get a turn, let’s see what you have. I had a reality check yesterday, thought I had 100-125 daylilies, ah no. I have 154, 32 haven’t bloomed yet and so far 7 new ones on the way. I’m seriously going to run out of room here on my suburban lot with four small dogs. I still have doubles to remove so I’m good for awhile. Quote of the day : “ I find it ironic that the colors red, white and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you. “
Night Embers is a lovely double, tall and a very nice red.

5 years agoHad a glitch while posting, I think my dog put a paw on my iPad screen while I was posting above : ) Northwind Dancer, such a lovely bloom, has done poorly here. I’m not giving up, it got moved last fall, I’m hoping for a better year.

Comments (36)Maryl may I ask where in the southern states you are that you experience such harsh conditions and high temps that "melt" so many daylilies . It must be awful . We have gotten upwards of 140 degree f. when the humidex is highhere in south western Ontario but not many of my daylilies melt although there are a few that fade through the day .but they do not melt (and I do believe I understand what you mean by melt.) I believe you mean that they get slick right and are mushy ? I have seen pics from other people but have never experienced it in my gardens....See MoreO daylilies 2019
Comments (15)Nancy, I really like the look of Outer Space, wonder how it would do here. Debra, I keep saying I am over the pinks with yellow ruffles, but Old Time Italian looks really good. Brad, I have Orange Velvet, such a great daylily that really stands out in a crowd. Open my Eyes is such a vivid flower, very nice one Lori. How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . 5 years agoHere are just 3 images for N daylilies that I can find labelled this year . So glad I found the program that will let me name images as I take them now . I wont run into this mess again I hope!

NEON FLAMINGO: Huge blooms. Too new to really evaluate. Did not reach registered height.
NAVAJO PONY: Outstanding bloom. Also relatively new. So far so good.
NEW COVENANT: Still growing in a pot. Does well. I like the red eye and edge.
NINE INCH NAILS: I was never a fan of the crispate form of daylilies until I saw this one. I love this one. I love the huge blooms. Strong stiff scapes. Great overall plant.

North Wind Dancer by many of you {and me] is an excellent plant and pretty.
Night Beacon: Several of you have it; I used to. I really like it but like Nancy, not many blooms [maybe a KY thing?]. Actually a really pathetic amount. So I got rid of it reluctantly.
Lori: I like Night of Knights
Celeste: Beside the first 3 you posted, Not Tonight Josephine,
Hoosier Nancy: I really like the color combo of Now or Never. I had a daylily with a similar color scheme, but by late morning was burnt to a crisp by the sun. So it went away.

5 years agoHoosier Nan: I like the color combination on Now or Never in your picture much better then on the database......Aaron: Newberry Touch looks to be a greyed lavender. Reminds me of Blueberry Breakfast and Teddy Bear's Picnic a bit. Nice...........I'll add one Emmerich to the list. It's pretty, but does loose some of it's color by mid PM in our heat. Probably does much better up north.
