Does charcoal decompose?
Comments (9)Charcoal is an indiscriminate adsorber and is as likely to bind up useful minerals, nutrients as harmful ones. In the environment of an orchid pot I should think that the adsorbing potential of a fresh charge of charcoal would be pretty much done in a couple to few months. After that, as Nick said, its just rock. Rock has its uses especially in organic mixes. There are other kinds of rock that don't spend their first two months in your pot competeing with your orchids for nutrients which is why I don't go out of my way to use charcoal but I wouldn't go out of my way to repot an orchid that had some charcoal in the mix. I don't believe that once bound to it charcoal can release and re-adsorb any particular element. H...See MoreHow do I make my Kendall Charcoal work for me?

Please post pictures if you can. I'm getting a sample board this week, but would love your feedback. Thanks!...See MoreDoes anyone have Silestone Charcoal Soapstone, suede?
Comments (27)Thanks everyone for taking time to share your experience and pics. We are just about to order charcoal soapstone Silestone... dithering on gloss vs. suede. We are very messy and although I love the matte look... thinking polish is more sensible for us. We are doing white perimeter cabinets (BM Swiss coffee) with a dark stained island/Silestone White Storm counter for that. Hmmm... I think White Storm is available as Polished finish only. Do you think the perimeter and island countertops be the same finish? (either matte or polish?)...See More- 5 years ago
