Comments (20)My mother got her GED, I came across the actual papers of complettion and sucess of passing and achieving ones GED and some congradulations of having completed the course and passed back in the 1950's or when my mother was stationed in Misissippi possibly . Papers and tests were shown, but in my opinon my father may have taken the test,too...err just to be nice I suspect he helped her to write and answer in dialog form as he was enlisted in the Military at age 17?( Grandmother had to sign papers so he could join?)and had just married a new chick at the high school who was experiencing public high school (the mid 1950's) a first year out of an all girls religious school. Actaully, having known my mother, who has been deceased since the early 1990's, I'd say it was important for her to do it all by herself...an actual righteous type. I would like to direct and write a movie on my mother some day. I think I am going to call it Grandma CInderella...that might help explain the real CInderella I met and lived with this past summer (my niece). I want to film it in three different paradigms at once, hopefully would be an interactive understanding of mind frames interactively. ( a puppet may come out of its place once while the actual comes out of place consisitantly often and the animation rarely interfers. Filmed in animation, filmed using puppets, filmed in live drama. The twist is that the hand puppets are like really talking to each other and the drama is talking to an audience trying to deliver an altered state of thinking. This state is then animated or dramatized so that the infomation has an appearance of multi bias. One clear voice- a voice of truth or the ability to agree. I learned a new way of control, it is a saying that goes like this, and if you ever hear it, listen to the chants of songs at play time and see how people playing together and how adults can change and disturb a childs way of thinking or for that mattter an adult. I forgot the saying now...darn, my thoughts go everywhere. I think the least one knows the better as far as keeping ones mind from creative traps. Or addictions that keep one from facing their greatest achievement potential. ANyways...the short version of the story is My mother took a correspondance course, I believe through the Dept of Education and received her GED certificate of graduation. I have a copy of the diploma. The tests cost her about 395.00? Perhaps I am getting a civil service course confuse me, which she also graduated from as a correspondance course. She had 7 kids and couldnt get away to go to school. She dropped out of high school to marry my father the first year she attended a public school. Her parents were from Poland, I beleieve her to be 1st generation as a US Citizen, and to make matters worse for me, My husband is related to almost everyone on the east coast it seems, by actually the townships on this island and other surrounding islands are uniquely family tied over the time of 1809, when they first settled and laid claim to a native american summer home. I guess a human recognizes the same thought processes and hopefully has become less fearful of each. Fear is the opposit of to be at peace. Fear promotes anger, and unpleasant stimuli to ones aging process. Having ponder the thought it seems that while being of fear is a toxic feeling and the body responds to the stimulithus it is not productive in ones life. Fear creates a tax on the body or a toll. and if the tax/toll is warranted then it should be paid. Otherwise choose not to be in fear. What I try to do is find a way to calm and find out what would be required of me to achieve my goals...then I just do exactly what it takes to get there. This process is like riding a bike or skiing for the first time. At first it feels really natural and then you generally self-actualize at some point if freed from distractions and procrastinations. Becoming present is actually foreign for some people. My 6 year old is showing me a picture of a robot that will go around the yard. It is called the Insect. It was a book that is nothing but propaganda for other plastic assembled toy that actually moves but has no function, it just steps forward like a wind-up toy. Basicly, a toy, wind- up, build it yourself, thing. Do you think it could be built as a wooden windup car or recycled something (?) that I could use for work? How would I safely wind it up and not get snapped for twisting too tight so I could go uphill with power??...See Morequotation: Start discussion end quote: ole joyful's laziness
Comments (3)It's pretty well the same as the last post on the "procrastination" thread, about the cookies to the "old farts" (my translafion of "ROMEOs") club at the village church, then the good news about blood pressure from the homecare nurse when my catheter was changed, and of the car battery about which I've been concerned, being reported O.K. when in for the oil change. And not having my possessions, such as they are, maybe being at risk when I wasn't able to find a homeless/street person to share my warm house when, wind taken into account, the temperature was to be in the 30s below zero. This morning in church when they were asking for joys and concerns prior to prayer, I was about to put my hand up to offer thankfulness that no frozen bodies were found in our area following the recent nights of extreme cold ... when the leader finished asking. Lucille, Maybe a good idea to post what you have written, then go to seek other material, bringing it back to make an edit. You have an hour to make edits, I'm fairly sure. Son has told me (multiple times, reportedly) to do my composing on notepad, Word, or wherever, then bringing it to wherever you want to post it, all of a piece. ole joyful...See MoreOut of pocket costs during construction?
Comments (49)Some thoughts that go through my head when I read the OP concerns. I am a rookie who only built once, but it was plenty to know how challenging the process is. I really cringe when I read post posts about costs and "unforeseen out of pocket" costs. There are so many. I could not imaging building without full well knowing in advance you are going to blow through the budget. The nonsense about going over 10 or 20% are not true, even if you are disciplined and don't deviate from the plans, which is nearly impossible. Thats half the fun in building is changing your mind midstream because you wanted something a bit different, who cares the headaches and extra cost. There is a moment in time when you can adjust the sails and you do. I know this goes against the advice of the pros like Virgil who like to see every single thing spec'd out and written with no change orders required and thus no surprise bills, but that seems a fantasy to me. Not that it's impossible, but that seems to me that if one were to do that, you would have all the plans and specs done, and then just walk away and have someone call you when its done a year later, because everything should be all on the plans spelled out. What could go wrong with that? I had so many surprise costs, its comical looking back and thinking of them all. Plus changing my mind all the time..plus its impossible to stop searching and exploring for better things once construction starts...plus its a usually once in a lifetime thing..plus its a great time to splurge so you don'y have regrets about skimping out along the way. I understand that some folks want to build a utilitarian structure at bare bones pricing, but for all the others who are trying to get a nice quality home without surprise costs along the way, I would recommend not building. In fact, I can't believe there is not a sticky thread right at the top of this forum about what one should seriously know going into a new build. It should be written clearly and colorfully for maximum effect. All the pitfalls, dangers and concerns all rolled up into one. The first line of danger should be a warning that the budget will go over by at least 35% under the best of scenarios! I will start working on a thread for other rookie builders. Seems like a worthy cause....See MoreI want to read some good news
Comments (77)I just avoid the news if I need to. I usually watch our local news updates (airs during the Today Show) and the national news updates are shown on the Today Show, but mostly pay little attention. We are in similar shoes as my father moved to an Assisted Living facility this week. It's been a hard week, mostly emotionally. I know it is best for him and his attitude is great, but it's just hard to see someone leave their home of 56 years. Wide open with a bit of acreage and privacy. He has a nice big room/bathroom (private) and thankfully we were able to get him on the backside of the villa, which overlooks woods. There's a large screened porch also. He's very used to peace and quiet (especially at night) and was worried about that. Thankful for the amazing caregivers he will have. We used this facility with my grandmother and they previously only had memory care. Now they have opened two villas for assisted living. My dad's mind is great but at 90 (in two weeks) his body is wearing out. Looking forward to a better week - it already is as the sun is shining and spring is in the air!
