Finished my Living Room
About a year ago I decided to redo my living room. I like MCM and Craftsman and so combined some Stickley seating with a long low MCM credenza and a couple of shakerish tables I already had. The lamp is an old inexpensive one bought from LL Bean and the carpet is again an old Couristan...the digital TV antenna is from Radio Shack ;-) The room's natural focal point is the stained glass window quite high up so I put the Credenza and the TV below it.

Comments (13)I think what bothers me most about your room is the coffee table and the rug. Plus I find your room quite matchy matchy. Everything is angular, very hard looking and high contrast. I would replace the coffee table with something minimalistic in wood and glass, and perhaps round. The rug is the same colour as the floor. I'd replace with something with colour. Perhaps choose your large art first then take a colour from there for the rug. The large black pillows on the couch look like tomestones lined up. I'd switch those out for colours & patterns. Your room has no lighting, how about a floor lamp with a big swing arm that hangs over the coffee table? Don't do plants. They won't jive with your modern minimalist style. You have good bones here. Comments (17)i like the chair. once you're able, do get it redone in a similar velvet if you like. Or, you could do the same color as your reddish pillows. I think the pillows are a bit blah, but the color is ok I think you could do pillows w/a little pattern you see how they have your reddish/orange color, but also the dark blue that goes w/your rug? w/the patterns? they all blend together pull some of these tones/prints that go w/your rug. then throw in a few solids in the bright color or if you like the golds just as an example, look at how they did the pillows in this room. (and the baskets on the wall are diff.) or this one. you don't have to do this many pillows! but look at how all the colors blend, even w/diff patterns. Comments (8)That would work but I don't want to ship from New Hampshire as you point out. 😀 However even with shipping, it is still a relative bargain as Chairish has what appears to be the same table for $5500 plus $600 shipping. 😱 I am also reluctant to large items over the internet because I had a bad experience when the chest was defective and I was expected to pack it up and arrange for shipping it back. 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI'm on the hunt for a better antenna that will pick up signal from behind the TV. There is art on the walls, you can see one picture and the edge of another, and there are a couple out of frame, but more could certainly be added. I'm on the hunt for something nice right now. I understand your comments about curtains and looked into them, but the current roller shades were chosen for privacy while letting light in to keep the space bright and the Mackintosh rose motif coordinates with the fabric on the settle. The light walls and white painted trim were also conscious decisions to keep the room light rather than having it weighed down by dark tones and the arts and crafts furniture, the cherry credenza and the rug; the contrast was intentional. But, the whitish wall, trim and shades are a bit of a mono-tonal slab and I think going a couple of shades darker on the wall so it's more "golden" would make it cozier, and I might just do that, of course the photo was take in full sunlight and as the sun goes down the walls warm up a bit. These are some curtains that I considered before opting for the roller shades and a night time picture.

5 years agoFYI, I took the advice and went with curtains in the den. They had some old blinds before and the curtains are a big improvement.
